The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (PG-13)

I give this movie a 4 out of 5. I think the only reason it gets a 4 instead of 5 is because of the ending. It still had all of the crime fighting, web slinging action that we come to love with the Spider-Man franchise but what happens at the end was unexpected. Don't fret though, Spider-Man doesn't seem to be quitting his day job any time soon. The writers for first film, The Amazing Spider-Man and the writers on this movie seem to be following closely to Stan Lee's vision of who Spider-Man really is. An average, self-doubting, gawky, teenage boy who has everyday problems, who also happened to get bitten by a radioactive spider that gives him his super hero skills. I loved the first film and this one ties the two together perfectly. The movie begins with the police in hot pursuit after the notorious villain, Aleksei Sytsevich (Paul Giamatti). He is trying to escape in a stolen truck filled with highly explosive plutonium, when suddenly, in swings Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield) to save the day. This makes Peter aka Spider-Man late for his previous engagement of attending his own high school graduation and hearing his girlfriend's, Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) valedictorian speech, but lucky for him, it was captured on video. While trying to retrieve the stolen truck, Peter has a vision of Gwen's deceased father (Dennis Leary). The vision reminds him he promised to leave Gwen out of his life as long as he is Spider-Man. After their graduation, Peter meets with Gwen outside of a restaurant, insisting he needs to keep his vow to her father by staying away from her, and the two break up. Peter's childhood friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan) returns to see his farther, Norman (Chris Cooper), CEO of OsCorp who is on his death bed. Norman explains he is sick and and his disease is hereditary and Harry is at the age when he first noticed his symptoms. The next day, Norman dies and Harry is appointed the new CEO of OsCorp. He soon uncovers information that the OsCorp board is secretly trying to take control from the Osborns but before he can prove it, he gets  framed and stripped of his title. Working for OsCorp is a man named Max Dillon (Jamie Foxx), who is a genius but no one takes seriously. He's timid and soft spoken and often gets mistreated by everyone, epically his boss. Max idolizes Spider-Man.  One day, while fighting crime, Spider-Man saves Max's life and tells him he is important to him. This makes Max crazed.  He finally has someone that notices him and cares about his existence. One night at work, Max gets stuck doing maintenance in one of the laboratories and has a unfortunate accident. This results in him being mutated and Electro is "born".  Meanwhile, Peter is trying to maintain a friendship with Gwen, but she soon reveals that she has an opportunity for a scholarship at Oxford University and that she may move to Britain. Will Spider-Man and Gwen get back together?  Will Harry regain control over OsCorp?  What chaos does Max cause as Electro? To get all the exciting answers to these questions you will have to watch this awesome action packed movie to find out! -Candie Bradfield
