Twitches

Twitches is a Disney Channel Original Halloween Movie that my kiddo and myself like to watch every year during Disney Channel "Monstober". It has my two favorite twins in it, Tia Mowry -Hardrict and Tamara Mowry-Housley. They both discover they are witches. I think Amelia from my book, Amelia and the Secret of Stoney Manor, could relate to them and would love this movie don't you. Ha ha ;)

I give Twitches 5 out of 5 stars as it is definitely a favorite of my family. Kuddos to everyone involved. "Go Twitches! Go Twitches!" This movie has a great story line with some quite funny moments, fantastic characters, and some neat effects. I love the moral behind it too.

Moral: Love is stronger than fear and to quote the movie, "Love is infinite. You can always make more when you need it."

Favorite Quotes

Illeana: You defeated the darkness once before.
Camryn Barnes: You mean when I was one? All I did was cry, and wet myself and wonder "What the heck is going on?" Apart from gaining some decent bladder control, nothing has changed!

Illeana: I just walked through some '70s wallpaper that will leave me seriously scarred for life!

Karsh: You just double-dipped, you ruined the entire dip- just go, just... go.

I love the music on the movie too. Please enjoy "Rush" from Twitches performed by Ally & AJ. I included the movie trailer at the bottom of this as I always do. Enjoy!

Hocus Pocus

FreeForm's "13th Nights of Halloween" starts tonight. Who all is going to watch Hocus Pocus? I know I am since I watch it every year. Here is my review of it.

If you were to ask a random passerby on the street if they have seen the movie Hocus Pocus they would more than likely say they had. It is definitely a Disney classic that one must watch when October rolls around.

I love the fact that it is a clean movie that I can watch with my 6 year old without fear of it being too scary. We both cackle and giggle as we watch three centuries old witches,  Winifred, Sarah, and Mary, try to navigate through the modern day 90's.  We hiss as they turn poor Thackery Binx into a cat ,but cheer as Max, Dani, Allison, and Binx try and thwart the efforts of the Sanderson sisters as they try to collect the children in the town's life force. And if you know Disney then you know their movies are going to have music. You better believe my son and I belt it out loud when "I Put A Spell on You" comes on. I give this movie 5 out of 5 stars as it a movie the whole family can enjoy. If you haven't seen it then you need to watch it today. I promise you it will put its spell on you and have you coming back to watch it for years to come. (Btw, who had a crush on Thackery Binx when they were growing up. I know I did. ;) )

Favorite Quotes:

Sarah: [singing in the sky] Come little children, I'll take thee away / Into a land of enchantment / Come little children, the times come to play / Here in my garden of magic.
(YES, I sing with this one too. )

Winifred: Sisters, All Hallow's Eve has become a night of frolic, where children wear costumes and run amok!

Sarah: Amok!

[dances around]
Sarah: Amok, amok, amok, amok, amok.

[Winifred punches Sarah in the stomach]
Sarah: Ugh!

[Sarah is pushed onto the "black river", but lands straight up]
Sarah: 'Tis firm! 'Tis firm as stone!

Winifred: Why, it's a road!

Please enjoy this Hocus Pocus Parody by The Hillywood Show. ****Hilly Hindi and Hannah Hindi if you see this we love your work and would love to interview you. :) ***

(Btw, if you and your friends have dressed as the Sanderson Sisters we would love to share your photos on here.)

~I included the movie trailer at the bottom as I always do. ~

Signs

I remember seeing this movie when it was in theaters. I loved it then and still love it to this day. I give it 5 out of 5 stars as I love the thought provoking aspect in it and the moral behind it. It's a movie about a man finding his faith again. M. Night Shyamalan, one of my favorite directors, directed this. I love the emotion that pours from his movies and this one is no different. All the emotions in Signs make his characters easy to relate to as you could see yourself in their shoes. Awesome job M. Night Shyamalan. I hope to work with you one day. :) Bravo to the entire cast, as well, for a great performance. (On a side note: Wasn't
Abigail Breslin adorable in this movie!)

Moral:
Everything happens for a reason. There are no coincidences. Good can be found even in the darkest of situations.

Favorite Quotes:

Graham Hess: People break down into two groups. When they experience something lucky, group number one sees it as more than luck, more than coincidence. They see it as a sign, evidence, that there is someone up there, watching out for them. Group number two sees it as just pure luck. Just a happy turn of chance. I'm sure the people in group number two are looking at those fourteen lights in a very suspicious way. For them, the situation is a fifty-fifty. Could be bad, could be good. But deep down, they feel that whatever happens, they're on their own. And that fills them with fear. Yeah, there are those people. But there's a whole lot of people in group number one. When they see those fourteen lights, they're looking at a miracle. And deep down, they feel that whatever's going to happen, there will be someone there to help them. And that fills them with hope. See what you have to ask yourself is what kind of person are you? Are you the kind that sees signs, that sees miracles? Or do you believe that people just get lucky? Or, look at the question this way: Is it possible that there are no coincidences?

Graham Hess: Ahh! I'm insane with anger!

Merrill: There are a lot of things I can take, and some things I can't. But what I can't take is when my older brother, who's everything that I want to be, starts losing faith in things. I saw that look in your eyes last night. I don't ever want to see that look in your eyes again.

Monster House

A house shrouded in mystery.....a grumpy, old, reclusive neighbor.....possible
murder. Sound intriguing enough to watch yet?

Monster House
is a favorite October movie in my house that we watch every year. Every time I watch this it makes me of think of Rear Window with James Stewart in it...a childlike version of Rear Window anyway. DJ and Chowder spy some weird goings on across the street through a telescope in Dj's room. They soon learn the horrifying truth that the house is ALIVE.With the help of their new friend, Jenny, they must discover the secrets that are trapped inside before it's too late.

With the voice talents of an all star cast and a story that draws you in from the very beginning I give this movie 5 out of 5 stars. I definitely recommend Monster House as one of your Halloween movies to watch this year. As far as the little kid scare factor goes my 6 old did jump a little when the house came to life, but after some reassurance it is "just pretend" he was fine. Just be aware.

Favorite Quotes:

Chowder: I paid 28 dollars for that ball! I had to mow ten lawns and ask my mom for a dollar 26 times!

DJ: I've just... murdered a guy!
Chowder: Naw... when it's an accident, it's called manslaughter.

Chowder: (whispering) It mocks us with its... *house-ness*!

Officer Lister: That sounds like the 'dangerous creature'! I'm gonna go check it out.
[sneaks toward the house]

Officer Landers: Gosh, just like tryin' to wrangle a puppy...

Nice job to all who worked on this movie!

Frankenweenie (PG)

I give this movie 5 out of 5 stars as this was a very creative and intriguing idea for a movie. It is Frankenstein meets Pet Cemetery. As far as the little kid scare factor goes my 5 year old liked it as a whole, but some things did freak him out a little so be aware.

The moral: What makes us different makes us unique not scary....and MAYBE the very beings that scare us are really just misunderstood.

Favorite quotes:

Mr. Rzykruski: Science is not good or bad, Victor. But it can be used both ways. That is why you must always be careful.

Mrs. Frankenstien: When you loose someone you love they move into a special place in your heart.

Nice job to all who worked on this movie.

Mr. Burton I want to work with you one day. I hope you will be directing a movie based on one of my books in the future. :)

Zombieland  (R)

I give this movie a 5 out of 5. I have this movie in my own personal collection and I absolutely adore it, if you can adore a movie about the living dead chasing you around and trying to eat your face off, lol. Normally, when you think zombies, you think, slow, dumb, ambling creatures, but not in this film. The zombies seem intelligent and they are certainly not taking their time trying to take a bite out of you. Although this doesn't sound like a comedy, in actuality, it is. It has very funny and witty dialogue and, in my opinion, the perfect cast. Everyone gives an awesome performance and the balance between action and comedy is genius. I usually watch this movie around this time of the year and until I do, my October just doesn't feel complete. The movie starts off with us meeting a college student, "Columbus" (Jesse Eisenberg).  He is being chased around the parking lot of a gas station by zombies after stopping in to fill up his car. While being chased, he explains how the zombie apocalypse all began. He explains, it started with a mutated strain of the mad cow disease, that became "mad zombie disease", which took over the United States in only two months, turning almost every American into vicious, flesh-eating zombies. He continues to explain that he has always been a bit of a nerd and a loner but this fact, in itself, is what has contributed to him surviving as long as he has.  Along with that fact, he has a specific set of rules that he goes by since the outbreak began. He has a fairly extensive list but only a few are mentioned in the movie. Here are the few that I can remember...
  1. "Cardio"
  2. "Double Tap"
  3. "Beware of bathrooms"
  4. "Seatbelts"
  5. "Travel light"
  6. "Don't be a hero"; Columbus later changes the rule to "Be a hero" at the amusement park, after facing his greatest fear
  7. "Limber up"
  8. "When in doubt, know your way out"
  9. "Check the back seat"
  10. "Enjoy the little things"
The rules are a running gag throughout the film and are shown in several hilarious and clever ways. Columbus is taking a road trip from his dorm in Austin, Texas to his parents house in Columbus, Ohio to see if they are still alive. Since the Zombie Apocalypse happened, everyone discovered that it's easier not to become attached to someone if they go by their city of origin instead of using their actual names considering you never know when you might get bit and turned. Soon Columbus' car breaks down and he is forced to walk.  While on his trek, he encounters "Tallahassee" (Woody Harrelson), a top notch, zombie killing machine. Even though "Tallahassee" isn't much of a people person, he decides to be nice guy and help out Columbus since he is down on his luck. Throughout the entire movie, Tallahassee is desperately searching for somewhere he can find a Twinkie because he said it's the one thing that  would take him back to a time when the world was normal. Having that Twinkie, even if just for a few moments, would make him feel happy. So in search of his long lost Twinkie, they take a detour to a supermarket, but instead of finding Twinkies inside, they bump into "Wichita" (Emma Stone), and her younger sister "Little Rock" (Abigail Breslin). That's all I'm giving away for now or I will be giving too much away. If you have never watched this move, you should totally go pick it up. If your still not sure that you would be interested in watching it or not because you think it might be scary, I would say as an adult, you should be fine, but this is defiantly not one for the kiddos.

Carrie "2013" (R)

I give this movie a 3 out of 5. It was good movie that I'm glad I can say that I've watched  but not one that feel like I have run out and purchase today. Honestly, I haven't seen the original Carrie with Sissy Spacek, so I can't compare the two, but this movie was well done, so it does peek my interest in watching that one too. Strangely enough, I want to label this a "girls" movie.  The most famous scene does take place at the prom and it also shows the struggles that girls go through in High School. Even though I feel like  girls might relate to it better, the guys are probably going to appreciate the ending more. This movie is centered around Carrie White (Chloe Grace Moretz), a socially awkward teenage girl who on a daily basis has to deal with her deranged, overly obsessed, religious mother Margaret White (Julianne Moore). Carrie has recently been forced to start her senior year at Ewen High School in Maine, which has it's up and it's downs. She gets a few peaceful hours to escape her mother's endless remarks about how she's an abomination and who is constantly locking her in the "prayer closet", but she also has to deal with other teenage girls making fun of her weird behavior just because they don't understand her. While showering one day after gym class, Carrie has her first sign that she is now a woman.  Not knowing any better, she naively thinks she is bleeding to death.  She goes hysterical and starts yelling for help. When the other girls come to see what all the commotion is about, they start laughing and taunting her by throwing sanitary products at her. One girl, Chris Hargensen (Portia Doubleday), captures the whole incident on film and uploads it to YouTube, adding further insult to injury. While another girl, Sue Snell (Gabriella Wilde), takes pity on poor Carrie. Sue comes up with a plan to make sure that the rest of Carrie's High School experience is one that she will always cherish and remember. Even if you haven't watched the original film Carrie, the plot in this movie is pretty much the same as the original. Carrie discovers that she has powers and she learns to harness and control them, later using it against all of those who did her wrong. The ending is epic and I think well deserved for a good horror movie. If your looking for a good Halloween movie to add to your weekend lineup, you should definitely go pick this up.
