I give this movie a 3 out of 5. It was good movie that I'm glad I can say that I've watched but not one that feel like I have run out and purchase today. Honestly, I haven't seen the original Carrie with Sissy Spacek, so I can't compare the two, but this movie was well done, so it does peek my interest in watching that one too. Strangely enough, I want to label this a "girls" movie. The most famous scene does take place at the prom and it also shows the struggles that girls go through in High School. Even though I feel like girls might relate to it better, the guys are probably going to appreciate the ending more. This movie is centered around Carrie White (Chloe Grace Moretz), a socially awkward teenage girl who on a daily basis has to deal with her deranged, overly obsessed, religious mother Margaret White (Julianne Moore). Carrie has recently been forced to start her senior year at Ewen High School in Maine, which has it's up and it's downs. She gets a few peaceful hours to escape her mother's endless remarks about how she's an abomination and who is constantly locking her in the "prayer closet", but she also has to deal with other teenage girls making fun of her weird behavior just because they don't understand her. While showering one day after gym class, Carrie has her first sign that she is now a woman. Not knowing any better, she naively thinks she is bleeding to death. She goes hysterical and starts yelling for help. When the other girls come to see what all the commotion is about, they start laughing and taunting her by throwing sanitary products at her. One girl, Chris Hargensen (Portia Doubleday), captures the whole incident on film and uploads it to YouTube, adding further insult to injury. While another girl, Sue Snell (Gabriella Wilde), takes pity on poor Carrie. Sue comes up with a plan to make sure that the rest of Carrie's High School experience is one that she will always cherish and remember. Even if you haven't watched the original film Carrie, the plot in this movie is pretty much the same as the original. Carrie discovers that she has powers and she learns to harness and control them, later using it against all of those who did her wrong. The ending is epic and I think well deserved for a good horror movie. If your looking for a good Halloween movie to add to your weekend lineup, you should definitely go pick this up.
