I would like to introduce "The Fantastic Felisha Meadows of Meadowland Photography" as our Photographer of the Month for the Month of November. Here is the personal interview that we were blessed with. Thank you Felisha. :)
Candie and Michelle: When did you discover you had a love for photography?
Felisha Meadows: I think I have always loved photography but never realized it as a passion until 2011. That’s when I bought my first Nikon D3100.
Candie and Michelle: Your pictures are beautiful. We are so glad you became a photographer. Did you go to school for photography or were you self taught?
Felisha Meadows: Girl I am Self taught and the biggest YouTuber ever. LOL. I couldn’t find anyone to mentor me in my hometown so I had no choice but to read and watch several videos a day and practice, practice, practice.
Candie and Michelle: Good for you! The practice paid off because your pictures are amazing. :) How many years have you been doing it?
Felisha Meadows: For about 3 years now. I didn’t really think I was that good at first. It wasn’t until I had created my Facebook Page and another professional photographer commented about my prices and proceeded
to kindly rip me a new face. It was then that I felt like If he took the time to comment and be upset at my answer then he obviously felt I was good enough to compete with him.
Candie and Michelle: Great way to look at it. So glad you didn't let him get you down. What’s the first picture you ever remember taking?
Felisha Meadows: WOW, um I'm old and I don’t think my memory goes back that far LOLOL. I do however, remember the first pictures I took with my DSLR. We drove to Louisburg Cider Mill and that was actually the first time I had even taken it out of the box. I took pictures of my Friend and her kids and my kids as well. It was good times I can't wait to go back.
Candie and Michelle: What a great memory. How do you balance family life and your photography business?
Felisha Meadows: Welllll, I'm in the process of working on that now. I have started trying to involve them in the process of everything so we can do this as a family. That doesn't always go as according to plan, but it hasn’t completely backfired all the time and sometimes it's nice to see us all working together.
Candie and Michelle: I understand. :) How do you like living in Topeka, Kansas?
Felisha Meadows: Topeka has always been my hometown. It doesn't always offer beautiful landscapes, like mountains or oceans, but girl we have cows to boot. LOL.
Candie and Michelle: Lol. :) Where is your favorite location in Topeka to do your photo shoots at?
Felisha Meadows: I don't really have any specific one in Topeka. It really depends on the needs or requirements of the subject. However, right now though, I love shooting in the West Bottoms in Kansas City. There are cool old warehouses, graffiti, and container yards. the possibilities are endless.
Candie and Michelle: :) Have any other photographers influenced your photography style?
Felisha Meadows: Oh yes. I love Tony and Chelsea Northrup, Terry White, Anna Maria Brandt, Serge Ramelli, and a host of others.
Candie and Michelle: We will have to check them out. What are the biggest challenges you face as a photographer?
Felisha Meadows: Sleeping, because I am OCD about editing and getting them done. I am also my worst critic which really doesn't help.
Candie and Michelle: I am too when it comes to my writing. :) What’s your favorite picture you have ever taken?
Felisha Meadows: I don’t have a particular favorite. It's always the one I'm working on right then.
Candie and Michelle: What is the most memorable photograph you have ever taken?
Felisha Meadows: The one I took yesterday. LOL I'm telling you my memory sucks. Just kidding. I think my most memorable photo was of a family where the kids were going 60 miles a minute in every direction. I had finally got them all on the couch and told them to make a crazy face. it was one of the best photos ever.
Candie and Michelle: Awww. What is the weirdest photograph you have ever been asked to take?
Felisha Meadows: I had a client see an image that was a mistake due to premature camera/flash fire. However, she loved it and said that it represented her life as far as coming in to knowing who she is and coming from the dark places in her life into the light. To me she looked dead but she loved it.
Candie and Michelle: :) What is the one thing/place/person you have always wanted to photograph?
Felisha Meadows: I would love to tour Europe. So many of my Friends have enjoyed it and brought back AMAZING images and have talked so wonderfully about the experience. It would be a dream come true.
Candie and Michelle: I pray that it happens in your future. :) What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started out?
Felisha Meadows: That I probably didn’t need Half of what I bought to create stunning images.
Candie and Michelle: Is there any advice you would want to give to aspiring photographers?
Felisha Meadows: Find a mentor or find out where classes are offered. I learned a lot by networking within a class. There is always someone willing to teach and help you grow but you have to find out who they are and that is one of the best ways.
Candie and Michelle: Great advice! Where do you see your photography taking you in the future?
Felisha Meadows: I am Hoping to make this something I can retire from and pass along to my children if they desire to take it but, only time will tell. I am a firm believer that what God has for me is for me.
Candie and Michelle: Amen! Please explain your photography packages for our readers?
Felisha Meadows: Our packages are unique and specific to each client. I try to give my client the very best that fits within their budget.
