I would like to introduce "The Enchanting Elizabeth Valentine of Studio V. Photography" as our Photographer of the Month for the Month of December. Here is the personal interview that we were blessed with. Thank you Elizabeth. :)

Candie and Michelle:  When did you discover you had a love for photography?

Elizabeth Valentine: I discovered my love of photography when I was a teenager.  I have always been a visual, creative person and it made sense for me to pursue it.  At, first it was a hobby.

Candie and Michelle:  :)  Did you go to school for photography or were you self taught?

Elizabeth Valentine:  I did not go to school for photography.  I learned from another photographer.  I worked with him for many years.  I shadowed him on his photography jobs.  I learned how to work with people and my camera at the same time.  He was an amazing person to help me.  Many photographers I know, do not like to help out photographers, just starting out.

Candie and Michelle:  So glad he was there to help you learn. :) How many years have you been doing it?

Elizabeth Valentine:
I have been a photographer for 10 years.

Candie and Michelle:  What’s the first picture you ever remember taking?

Elizabeth Valentine:
I do not remember the first photo.  My fondest memories in my beginning years, were photographing my friends and we would stay up all night editing them and enjoying each other's company.

Candie and Michelle:   What a sweet memory. How do you balance family life and your photography business?

Elizabeth Valentine: I have 3 children so the balance of family and business is so important,  Monday-Friday, I wake up at 4:30 and I edit my images early in the morning.  I then have the day to spend with my family. When I book sessions, I like to cluster them on the same days so I only have a few days to shoot a week and then I have many days off with my family.  They are the most important aspect of my life.  My business will always come second to them.

Candie and Michelle:   :) How do you like living in Port Allegany, Pennsylvania?

Elizabeth Valentine:  Port Allegany, is a very small town, but it has a big heart.  I grew up here and moved away for 13 years.  I never thought as a young adult , I would ever want to move back. My husband and I moved back here in 2010. It is the perfect place to live when raising children. We love to travel so I still get to be part of the world.  I do love the sense of community here and small town values.

Candie and Michelle:  Sounds like a wonderful town. Hope to visit it one day.  Where is your favorite location  in Port Allegany to do your photo shoots at?

Elizabeth Valentine:  I love shooting on my parent's property.  They live on a mountain with an amazing view.  I know that location will always provide some amazing shots and sometimes, the wildlife comes out to say hello too.

Candie and Michelle:   Awww. They want their picture taken too. :) Have any other photographers influenced your photography style?

Elizabeth Valentine:  Absolutely!  I love the creativity of Anne Geddes, the warmth  and heart of  Lisa J Holloway that she gives to her portraits, and the intensity that Meg Bitton gives to her images.  All these ladies are amazing in their own right, and I hope someday to be as amazing as them!

Candie and Michelle:   We will have to check them out. What are the biggest challenges you face as a photographer?

Elizabeth Valentine:   One of my biggest challenges is trying to make my business grow.  I am an on-location photographer, I would love to open my own storefront someday.  That is a long process, but I feel that it will happen soon. Another challenge I feel I face is trying to narrow down a specialty.  I just love photographing everything.  I do not want to limit myself to one particular genre.   My favorite sessions to photograph are families, children and maternity.

Candie and Michelle:  We hope to help you grow your business. What’s your favorite picture you have ever taken?

Elizabeth Valentine:   I LOVE doing artistic photos.  These photos are close to my heart because I get complete, creative control.  I love creating a tone and a feeling for people when they look at my work.

Candie and Michelle:  :) What is the most memorable photograph you have ever taken?

Elizabeth Valentine:
I did a series called "capturing cancer"  I photographed a husband and wife who both had cancer.  Their struggle and story, I felt, I captured on camera.  They donated money at the session, that went to a child with Leukemia, of whom, I was raising money for.

Candie and Michelle:  Awww. What are the biggest challenges you face as a photographer?

Elizabeth Valentine:  SPENDING!  I have a bad habit of spending too much money on props, backdrops and camera equipment.  I feel like a kid in a candy store.  I over spend for sure.  I need someone to ground me and tell me NO!

Candie and Michelle:  LOL.
What is the one thing/place/person you have always wanted to photograph?

Elizabeth Valentine:
I have never photographed twin babies.  I would love to do that.  That would be challenging for sure.

Candie and Michelle: That would be sweet. What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started out?

Elizabeth Valentine:    I know now, to never compare yourself to other photographers.  Only compare my work, to my work.  If I knew that then, I would have had more self confidence for sure.  In the beginning of my career, I feared many situations.  I feared I would fail.  It held me back for many years.

Candie and Michelle:  Good advice for anyone. Is there any advice you would want to give to aspiring photographers?

Elizabeth Valentine: Follow your dreams and your heart and never give up.

Candie and Michelle:  Also great advice! Where do you see your photography taking you in the future?

Elizabeth Valentine:  TO THE PENTHOUSE!  Just kidding.  I hope I can make a good solid career out of it and I am hoping it can be something to pass down to my children.

Candie and Michelle:  Ha ha. I hope we help build your business so that you can do that. Please explain your photography packages for our readers?

Elizabeth Valentine: I do sitting fees. I charge a certain amount for the session and then artwork and prints along with many other items, can be purchased after the session reveal.

Candie and Michelle:  If anyone of our readers are interested in your work what would be the best way to contact you?

Elizabeth Valentine:
My Facebook page would be the best way!

I would like to introduce "The Fantastic Felisha Meadows of Meadowland Photography" as our Photographer of the Month for the Month of November. Here is the personal interview that we were blessed with. Thank you Felisha. :)

Candie and Michelle:   When did you discover you had a love for photography?

Felisha Meadows:    I think I have always loved photography but never realized it as a passion until 2011. That’s when I  bought my first Nikon D3100.

Candie and Michelle:    Your pictures are beautiful. We are so glad you became a photographer. Did you go to school for photography or were you self taught?

Felisha Meadows:   Girl I am Self taught and the biggest YouTuber ever. LOL. I couldn’t find anyone to mentor me in my hometown so I had no choice but to read and watch several videos a day and practice, practice, practice.

Candie and Michelle:  Good for you! The practice paid off because your pictures are amazing. :)  How many years have you been doing it?

Felisha Meadows:   For about 3 years now. I didn’t really think I was that good at first. It wasn’t until I had created my Facebook Page and another professional photographer commented about my prices and proceeded
to  kindly rip me a new face. It was then that I felt like If he took the time to comment and be upset at my answer then he obviously felt I was good enough to compete with him.

Candie and Michelle:   Great way to look at it. So glad you didn't let him get you down. What’s the first picture you ever remember taking?

Felisha Meadows:   WOW, um I'm old and I don’t think my memory goes back that far LOLOL. I do however, remember the first pictures I took with my DSLR. We drove to Louisburg Cider Mill and that was actually the first time I had even taken it out of the box. I took pictures of my Friend and her kids and my kids as well. It was good times I can't wait to go back.

Candie and Michelle:  What a great memory. How do you balance family life and your photography business?

Felisha Meadows:   Welllll, I'm in the process of working on that now. I have started trying to involve them in the process of everything so we can do this as a family. That doesn't always go as according to plan, but it hasn’t completely backfired all the time and sometimes it's nice to see us all working together.

Candie and Michelle:   I understand. :) How do you like living in Topeka, Kansas?

Felisha Meadows:   Topeka has always been my hometown. It doesn't always offer beautiful landscapes, like mountains or oceans, but girl we have cows to boot. LOL.

Candie and Michelle:    Lol. :) Where is your favorite location in Topeka to do your photo shoots at?

Felisha Meadows:    I don't really have any specific one in Topeka. It really depends on the needs or requirements of the subject. However, right now though, I love shooting in the West Bottoms in Kansas City. There are cool old warehouses, graffiti, and container yards. the possibilities are endless.

Candie and Michelle:  :)  Have any other photographers influenced your photography style?

Felisha Meadows:   Oh yes. I love Tony and Chelsea Northrup, Terry White, Anna Maria Brandt, Serge Ramelli, and a host of others.

Candie and Michelle:     We will have to check them out. What are the biggest challenges you face as a photographer?

Felisha Meadows:   Sleeping, because I am OCD about editing and getting them done. I am also my worst critic which really doesn't help.

Candie and Michelle:   I am too when it comes to my writing. :) What’s your favorite picture you have ever taken?

Felisha Meadows:   I don’t have a particular favorite. It's always the one I'm working on right then.

Candie and Michelle:  What is the most memorable photograph you have ever taken?

Felisha Meadows:   The one I took yesterday. LOL I'm telling you my memory sucks. Just kidding. I think my most memorable photo was of a family where the kids were going 60 miles a minute in every direction. I had finally got them all on the couch and told them to make a crazy face. it was one of the best photos ever.

Candie and Michelle:    Awww. What is the weirdest photograph you have ever been asked to take?

Felisha Meadows:  I had a client see an image that was a mistake due to premature camera/flash fire. However, she loved it and said that it represented her life as far as coming in to knowing who she is and coming from the dark places in her life into the light. To me she looked dead but she loved it.

Candie and Michelle:   :) What is the one thing/place/person you have always wanted to photograph?

Felisha Meadows:   I would love to tour Europe. So many of my Friends have enjoyed it and brought back AMAZING images and have talked so wonderfully about the experience. It would be a dream come true.

Candie and Michelle:   I pray that it happens in your future. :) What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started out?

Felisha Meadows:    That I probably didn’t need Half of what I bought to create stunning images.

Candie and Michelle:   Is there any advice you would want to give to aspiring photographers?

Felisha Meadows:
Find a mentor or find out where classes are offered. I learned a lot by networking within a class. There is always someone willing to teach and help you grow but you have to find out who they are and that is one of the best ways.

Candie and Michelle:   Great advice! Where do you see your photography taking you in the future?

Felisha Meadows:   I am Hoping to make this something I can retire from and pass along to my children if they desire to take it but, only time will tell. I am a firm believer that what God has for me is for me.

Candie and Michelle:   Amen! Please explain your photography packages for our readers?

Felisha Meadows:   Our packages are unique and specific to each client. I try to give my client the very best that fits within their budget.

Candie and Michelle:   If anyone of our readers are interested in your work what would be the best way to contact you?

Felisha Meadows:
I can be reached via:

I would like to introduce "The Jovial Joy Phillips of Joy Lyn Photography" as our Photographer of the Month for the Month of September. Here is the personal interview that we were blessed with. Thank you Joy. :)

Candie and Michelle:
When did you discover you had a love for photography?

Joy Phillips: When I was 7 or so, I was given a hot pink, 110 film camera. I spent all of my allowance on film and developing for that camera! I graduated to my Dads old Minolta in my teens, and finally bought my first Nikon with high school graduation money.

Candie and Michelle: :) Did you go to school for photography or were you self taught?

Joy Phillips: I have been self taught over the years.

Candie and Michelle: Kuddos. Your pictures are beautiful. :) How many years have you been doing it?

Joy Phillips: Officially, 12 years.

Candie and Michelle: What’s the first picture you ever remember taking?

Joy Phillips: Growing up in the mountains of California, I was obsessed with wild sweet peas. I remember spending rolls and rolls of film on photographing those.

Candie and Michelle: What a sweet memory. How do you balance family life and your photography business?

Joy Phillips: I keep strict business hours. I work 9-5 and as soon as my husband is home for the day, I shut things down and focus on our time together. Even if it means leaving a mountain of work undone. I’ve had to learn that while my clients are very important to me, so is my life with my husband and making the most of each day we have together.

Candie and Michelle: :) How do you like living in Yorkville, Illinois?

Joy Phillips: I spent quite a few years growing up here, then got married and moved away (I was a Southern girl for a few years!). We recently moved back, and I am loving that I live near several of my siblings. I love how laid back life is in Yorkville. We have 3 acres, which I like to call our quiet slice of the world.

Candie and Michelle: Sounds heavenly. Where is your favorite location  in Yorkville to do your photo shoots at?

Joy Phillips: Not in Yorkville actually, although it is right across the field from my house...A venue called Emerson Creek Pottery and Tearoom. I love using their barn and property for as a beautiful backdrop for my photos.

Candie and Michelle: You do have beautiful backgrounds in your pictures. Have any other photographers influenced your photography style?

Joy Phillips: Yes, I adore Jasmine Star. She has had a great influence on my style and how I approach client relationships. Zach and Jody Gray have also had a big influence on how I operate my business.

Candie and Michelle: We will have to check them out. :) What are the biggest challenges you face as a photographer?

Joy Phillips: Staying fresh and current in an ever changing industry. It seems like trends come and go, and while I don’t want to go with the latest trends, I strive to stay classic and simple in my photography. I want my images to be seen as elegant in 100 years. Not as if they followed the latest trend of the decade.

Candie and Michelle: :) What’s your favorite picture you have ever taken?

Joy Phillips: My favorite image is always from my latest wedding. I can’t say that I have just one over the years. I am always excited about the moment that has just passed and I have captured.

Candie and Michelle: Awww. What is the weirdest photograph you have ever been asked to take?

Joy Phillips: Most recently a bride asked that I recreate a pose of her groom and his Dad. When the groom was 5, he and his Dad attended a black tie event. They took a photo of them wearing their bow ties, tux shirt and not much else. I was asked to recreate that photo as the groom was getting ready for the wedding day. Thank goodness they decided to wear boxers!

Candie and Michelle: LOL. What is the one thing/place/person you have always wanted to photograph?

Joy Phillips: I have been very fortunate in my career to have photographed quite a few destination weddings. Hawaii, New Zealand, Mexico, California, Florida, Colorado, Oregon... But I have always wanted to do a shoot in Paris. One day.

Candie and Michelle: WOW. You got an amazing list there. I want to visit Paris too. What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started out?

Joy Phillips: I wish someone would have told me that attending more workshops was a must! Not for the training necessarily (although great info can be learned at workshops!), but to network with other great professionals. I really regret not networking early on in my career. I feel like I missed out on a lot of great connections by not investing in workshops.

Candie and Michelle: Great advice! Is there any advice you would want to give to aspiring photographers?

Joy Phillips: Network, Network, Network. Social media, in person, second shooting.... Do all of it! And maintain relationships with other photographers. Also, don’t be afraid to make mistakes. They happen. You learn and move on from them.

Candie and Michelle: Also amazing advice. Where do you see your photography taking you in the future?

Joy Phillips: I would love to take on more destination weddings per year. I also would like to continue to build my newborn photography business.

Candie and Michelle: I hope we can help with that. :) Please explain your photography packages for our readers?

Joy Phillips: I include a certain number of hours for wedding day coverage, a complimentary engagement session (a must for getting to know couples!), and digital files. Those items are the base of every package. I feel that it is important to get to know my clients, make sure their day is well documented, but I also want them to have the freedom to have their images and be able to share them.

Candie and Michelle: If anyone of our readers are interested in your work what would be the best way to contact you?

Joy Phillips: My website! www.joylynphotography.com or info@joylynphotography.com

Thank you so much Joy for taking the time to sit down with us. We feel blessed to be featuring you this month. :)

"The Lovable Lauren Nievod"

I would like to introduce "The Lovable Lauren Nievod of Lauren Nievod Photography" as our Photographer of the Month for the Month of May. Here is the personal interview that we were blessed with. Thank you Lauren. :)

Candie and Michelle:
When did you discover you had a love for photography?

Lauren Nievod: Honestly, I have had a love for photography as long as I can possibly remember. I used to play with my father's old film camera just as a toy! I have always said that I see life in “frames” as I go about my day. If I see a pretty flower, a lovely couple or just anything that looks worth shooting, I can totally foresee it preserved in time and in a picture frame. Is that odd?!?

Candie and Michelle: Not odd all. I know exactly what you mean. Did you go to school for photography or were you self taught?

Lauren Nievod: I took a few film photography classes in high school where we took and developed our own photographs, which was so neat! Other than that, I am completely self taught with the exception of attending various workshops and classes from photographers that I personally admire. I love to learn new tips and techniques! You have to stay fresh in this industry!

Candie and Michelle: Yes you do. How many years have you been doing it?

Lauren Nievod: I took the leap of faith and started my business in January of 2014, although I have been shooting since high school.

Candie and Michelle: What’s the first picture you ever remember taking?

Lauren Nievod: Wow, is it strange to say that I don’t remember? I am sure it was of a flower or some landscape on a family vacation. I love capturing nature and its beauty!

Candie and Michelle: No, that's not strange. It's understandable. How do you balance family life and your photography business?

Lauren Nievod: I am actually still trying to master this task! I have a wonderful husband, a beautiful baby girl and I am pregnant with our second child. Finding balance can be quite difficult as most families that I work with are only free to schedule session on the weekends when I would ideally like to be spending time with my own family. I try to stick to only being behind my computer during the week days and keeping Sundays as a strictly family day. Things happen and this plan does not always work, but I certainly try :-)

Candie and Michelle: Congrats on the pregnancy!! How do you like living in Maryland?

Lauren Nievod: I grew up in Florida until I was ten years old, then moved to Maryland and have loved it ever since. I can’t say that I LOVE the Winter time! Brrrr! Maryland is certainly gorgeous though and full of beautiful places to shoot.

Candie and Michelle:  I bet it is. :) Where is your favorite location in Maryland to do your photo shoots at?

Lauren Nievod: It completely depends on the season and location of my clients. I try to shoot at places that my clients have a personal attachment to. I feel like I am documenting a moment in their life, and they will be looking back at these photos in the future, therefore the location should be a place close to their hearts and one they’ll remember!

Candie and Michelle: That's sweet. :) Have any other photographers influenced your photography style?

Lauren Nievod: Of course! With social media, our eyes are loaded with seeing stunning images all day long. We live in a time where everyone has a built in camera on their phones and is a photographer! Professionally speaking, I admire the work of newborn photographers Kelly Brown, Luisa Dunn and Kimmy Howard (and of course so many others). I am an assistant to Shawn Hubbard, a photographer that I met and have always admired the work of while cheering for the Baltimore Ravens. His work is amazing and I am so lucky to be able to work with him and learn oh so much!

Candie and Michelle: We will have to check them out. What are the biggest challenges you face as a photographer?

Lauren Nievod: The biggest challenge I have faced as a photographer is self doubt. It is very tough to not compare yourself to the many other photographer in the industry. Photography is art and it is a very personal thing for me. Every image I create takes a lot of time and creativity, then you share it with the world to judge.  It can be quite daunting!

Candie and Michelle: I can imagine it is. What’s your favorite picture you have ever taken?

Lauren Nievod: Hmmm, my indecisive self is unsure :-) I love when my daughter allows me the time to take her photo. She is my world, so of course all of her portraits are my absolute favorite!

Candie and Michelle: I understand that. I'm the "Mom"arazzi when it comes to my son. Lol. What is the most memorable photograph you ever taken?

Lauren Nievod: I know this is another broad answer, but any time I take portraits of a newborn, it makes my heart melt. The fact that parents have hired me to capture their most precious gift is heart warming in itself. The way new life is created completely blows my mind and I am able to capture that! Wow, just incredible!

Candie and Michelle: Awww....What is the weirdest photograph you have ever been asked to take?

Lauren Nievod: Ha, well it would have to be this past weekend at a wedding that I was photographing. This gentleman kept coming up to me and asking me to take his portrait while doing some crazy things. How could I say no? I just tried to avoid eye contact after the fifth time :-)

Candie and Michelle: Ha ha ha. What is the one thing/place/person you have always wanted to photograph?

Lauren Nievod: I would be honored to be chosen to photograph a celebrities newborn or wedding! Can you imagine? Ahhh!! Or… I must admit, I am a huge Britney Spears fan and if I could photograph her, dreams made!

Candie and Michelle:  You never know what could happen in the future. :) What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started out?

Lauren Nievod: I wish I knew how continually expensive this industry is to be in. I am constantly purchasing new gear, props, programs and more! You can’t grow without reinvesting in yourself and your business.

Candie and Michelle: Is there any advice you would want to give to aspiring photographers?

Lauren Nievod: Believe in yourself and treat your customers like gold. Word of mouth is key and your clients are your best form of advertising!

Candie and Michelle: Great advice! Where do you see your photography taking you in the future?

Lauren Nievod: I started out solely photographing maternity, newborn and family sessions. I am a hopeless romantic and really enjoy capturing couples on their wedding day. I’d like to make that a huge part of my business and be known for it.

Candie and Michelle: Keep it up! You can do it! I hope we are able to help get your name out there more. :) Please explain your photography packages for our readers?

Candie and Michelle: If anyone of our readers are interested in your work what would be the best way to contact you?

Lauren Nievod:  I have a contact form on my website that can be submitted, or they can email me at laurennievodphotography@gmail.com

Thank you so much Lauren for taking the time to sit down with us. We feel blessed to be featuring you this month. :)

I would like to introduce "The Dynamic Debbie Eakin of Debbie Eakin Photography" as our Photographer of the Month for the Month of April. Here is the personal interview that we were blessed with. Thank you Debbie. :)

Candie and Michelle:
When did you discover you had a love for photography?

Debbie Eakin: When I took digital photography classes at MICA.

Candie and Michelle: Did you go to school for photography or were you self taught?

Debbie Eakin: A little of both. I went to the Maryland Institute, College of Art for graphic design but have always had a love for art in general. I took a few photography classes in college, some digital.

Candie and Michelle: How many years have you been doing it?

Debbie Eakin: 10+ years or so. I have been 'snapping pictures' since childhood but I developed more of an appreciation for photography in college.

Candie and Michelle: What’s the first picture you ever remember taking?

Debbie Eakin: I don't remember the subject matter but I do remember the camera. I had a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle camera. It would imprint one of the turtles in the bottom right hand corner of each photo.

Candie and Michelle: How do you balance family life and your photography business?

Debbie Eakin: Easily. The photography I really enjoy is more of a hobby. I work for a golf cart parts and accessory distributor. I take photos at work but that isn't everything I do.

Candie and Michelle: How do you like living in Maryland?

Debbie Eakin: It's a great place to live because you can experience all four seasons. The downside is the taxes but that is a whole other topic.

Candie and Michelle: I have heard several people talk about the seasons who live there. Where is your favorite location  in Maryland  to your photo shoots at?

Debbie Eakin: There are too many to list but I really enjoy shooting random items or graffiti I find while hiking/exploring new areas.

Candie and Michelle: Has any other photographers influenced your photography style?

Debbie Eakin: My biggest inspiration came from a few people in my college classes. Their level of creativity and originality amazed me. They thought outside of the box.

Candie and Michelle: What are the biggest challenges you face as a photographer?

Debbie Eakin: The biggest challenges I faced were in college. My first photography class was strictly with manual cameras. While it was fun to learn, it was more difficult to wait for the final results. The moment you wanted to capture would be over by the time you saw the final results of a developed photo. If your settings weren't correct, the moment was lost. The other challenge in manual photography were the cost of the materials (paper, chemicals etc.). The studio was free in college but we had to pay for our own supplies.

Candie and Michelle: I can see how that can be challenging. What’s your favorite picture you have ever taken?

Debbie Eakin: I have a lot but some of the ones of my bull dogs will always be favorites.

Candie and Michelle: I like those too. What is the most memorable photograph you ever taken?

Debbie Eakin: The dogs win again on this question. Their personalities come through in photographs.

Candie and Michelle: What is the weirdest photograph you have ever been asked to take?

Debbie Eakin: I think I have a strong threshold for all things weird . . . Some of the oddest things I have photographed come from nature, anything from random insects to eggs that washed onto the shore in Jamaica after a storm.

Candie and Michelle: What is the one thing/place/person you have always wanted to photograph?

Debbie Eakin: Architectural details in France.

Candie and Michelle: Me too. What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started out?

Debbie Eakin: Digital photography. I take more risks now than I did before due to the cost of supplies.

Candie and Michelle: Is there any advice you would want to give to aspiring photographers?

Debbie Eakin: There are no rules. Learn the how to operate the camera but take chances when you shoot. Don't always go for the traditional shot. Try various angles and points of view.

Candie and Michelle: Good advice. Where do you see your photography taking you in the future?

Debbie Eakin: I'd like to see my photos in the home decor world but more than just framed wall art. I find beauty in patterns, light and color that I could see on pillows, curtains etc.

Candie and Michelle: Please explain your photography packages for our readers?

Debbie Eakin: I do freelance work on the side and charge on a case by case basis. Most of my freelance work is with different mediums (oil paint, watercolor, etc.). As of now, my photography is just a hobby.

Candie and Michelle: If anyone of our readers are interested in your work what would be the best way to contact you?

Debbie Eakin: Email works best. My email address is holstein1983@yahoo.com.

Thank you so much Debbie for taking the time to sit down with us. We feel blessed to be featuring you this month. :)

I would like to introduce the Talented Tava Bradshaw of Georgia Skies Photography as our "Photographer of the Month" for the Month of March. Here is the personal interview that we were blessed with. Thank you Tava. :)
Candie and Michelle: When did you discover you had a love for photography?

Tava Bradshaw: I'm not sure when exactly, but I've always liked taking pictures. We moved around a lot growing up and lost many photos of me and of my family. I didn't want that happening to my children. I want them and their children to picture their past and the people that helped make me who I am today.

Candie and Michelle: I understand that completely. There are moments from my past that I wish I had captured. Did you go to school for photography or were you self taught?

Tava Bradshaw: I am self taught. I learn something new every day. Thankfully, I am a speed reader, and that allows me time to read and research new concepts and ways I can improve my skills.

Candie and Michelle: What a wonderful and helpful skill to have. How many years have you been doing it?

Tava Bradshaw:
Professionally, Ive been taking photos for about 6 years. Before that, I remember getting a Polaroid instant camera for Christmas one year from a cousin. I think I might have been 13 or 14. That was the biggest Christmas I ever had as a kid! I had other cameras through the years but pictures started meaning more to me when I had children.

Candie and Michelle: I understand what you mean there. They call me the "Momarazzi". LOL. What’s the first picture you ever remember taking?

Tava Bradshaw: Wow, Ive taken so many! I can't remember the first picture but I'm pretty sure it was probably my nephew, my friends or one of my dogs. When I really got into photography, though, my kids were pretty much my subject all the time.

Candie and Michelle: How do you balance family life and your photography business?

Tava Bradshaw: It's tough to balance. Not only am I a photographer, wife & mom, I also work full-time in healthcare. Ive been in the medical field since 1999. I am very fortunate. I have a lot of support from my family. They help me set up sessions and assist me any way I need. Plus, being a photographer has its benefits in regard to knowing about events in your kids lives and being present to capture them.

Candie and Michelle
: We are so glad you have that wonderful support system. How do you like living in Hiawassee, Ga?

Tava Bradshaw: I love it. The Mountains, the people. The amazing scenery in our area provides the most incredible back drop in many of my photos

Candie and Michelle: The backgrounds in your photos really are stunning. Where is your favorite location in Hiawassee, Ga to your photo shoots at?

Tava Bradshaw: For regular sessions, Im not sure I have a favorite. We have a lot of variety from rustic, vintage to polished and ornate. But if I must choose one - I would choose our local school. The view is incredible from the football stands but my heart is more into capturing these talented young people Ive come to know and showing the world how great they truly are. Every child should have memories that they are proud of and memories that make them smile for years to come.

Candie and Michelle: Awww....sweet. Have any other photographers influenced your photography style?

Tava Bradshaw: I'm constantly reading and learning. I can't say there is a photographer in general that has influenced me but there are some amazing artists that inspire me.

Candie and Michelle: What are the biggest challenges you face as a photographer?

Tava Bradshaw: Lighting. Any photographer will tell you- good lighting is a must. Secondly, editing. I am very much a perfectionist in what I create to share with people. Third, trying to cover several school events and feeling really guilty not having time to capture so many other school events.

Candie and Michelle: I can understand that. What’s your favorite picture you have ever taken?

Tava Bradshaw: When I upgraded my camera, I did a little fun session with all 3 of my children (all teens! which is a task!). They were goofing off and posing for laughs. There are several of those that are my favorites.

Candie and Michelle: Memories you will have forever. :) What is the most memorable photograph you have ever taken?

Tava Bradshaw: My grandson in his first moments. I was overwhelmed by how much I could love someone I had never met. He was born in December 2014. These photos may not win any recognition but they bring me great joy. Our first grand!

Candie and Michelle: Those photos are more precious than gold. :) What is the weirdest photograph you have ever been asked to take?

Tava Bradshaw: Um. Did I mention that I am around a lot of teenagers at local school events? Lets just say that I said "no".

Candie and Michelle: LOL. What is the one thing/place/person you have always wanted to photograph?

Tava Bradshaw: One thing? Everything!

Candie and Michelle: What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started out?

Tava Bradshaw: That I don't have to "salvage" every single photo I take. I am allowed to have a few that need to go to the recycle bin.

Candie and Michelle: Good advice. Is there any advice you would want to give to aspiring photographers?

Tava Bradshaw: Practice. Practice. Practice. I was encouraged by many people to step up and do more photography. Sports events will test your skills to the max. Don't sweat it that you can't get all 3 of those toddlers in the perfect pose like you see in the magazines. Mom & Dad really love those "real life" shots you get when you interact with them and let them be themselves.

And while you are practicing, offer to help local charities, a special needs group, or even your local school. While these things may not pay at all, the experience will help you improve your skills and that is truly priceless.

Candie and Michelle: That is really good advice. Where do you see your photography taking you in the future?

Tava Bradshaw: I haven't really thought about that before. Thanks to my much loved sister, Angie (who proudly displays my creations), I was introduced to YA Author, Christy Sloat. Christy was looking for original work that was one of a kind to adorn her book covers. We made a connection and here we are, 2 one of a kind covers, and another one on the way. So, for the immediate future, I am breaking into the book cover business.

And taking LOTS of photos of my grand. LOL.

And gearing up for my sons graduation this year. I guess I should say, my many children that will graduate this year. I have grown so close to many of his classmates. Photography has allowed me to know many of them really well. I'm sure I will be a blubbery mess by graduation- but I will still be taking pictures, Kleenex in hand!

Candie and Michelle: I have seen your covers. Absolutely gorgeous. As for graduation....I would need some tissue too if I were in your shoes. Please explain your photography packages for our readers?

Tava Bradshaw: My photography packages are varied. As I photograph Newborns, Families, Seniors, Engagements, Weddings, Pageants, Sports Events, etc, each client I serve is unique. My base price is $75 for simple sessions. Wedding packages start at $350. Typically I provide disks of the photographs to my clients with a print release so they can print what they want. I also offer regular prints up to 16 x 20 and I offer landscapes on canvas.

Candie and Michelle: If anyone of our readers are interested in your work what would be the best way to contact you?

Email or facebook is always the best way to reach me. My email is picturemeingeorgia@Live.com

I would like to introduce the Lovely Lindsay Swinford of Cameo Photography as our Photographer of the Month for the Month of February. Here is the personal interview that we were blessed with. Thank you Lindsay. :)

Candie and Michelle: When did you discover you had a love of photography?

Lindsay Swinford: I’m not sure, I know I was very young though. My grandmother was always taking pictures of my sister and I, and sometimes she would let me take pictures with whatever was top of the line. She always had a great camera! She got me my first hot pink kodak1-10 without a flash for Easter one year. I may have been 6-7.

Candie and Michelle: Did you go to school for photography or were you self taught?

Lindsay Swinford: I would love to go to school for it! I am self taught with the help of 2 seasoned photographers that have been wonderful mentors.

Candie and Michelle: It's always nice to have good support from people who have traveled down the same path. How many years have you been in photography?

Lindsay Swinford:Professionally , just under a year. However I have been taking pictures since I was a child and really enjoyed it as a teenager. I was on the Yearbook Staff in High School, and our School Newspaper in High School and College.

Candie and Michelle: What’s the first picture you ever remember taking?

Lindsay Swinford:I remember taking pictures with my little 1-10 of my grandmothers flowers, my cats and my sister. You could only take pictures outside with it.

Candie and Michelle: I remember those cameras. I enjoyed taking pictures myself. How do you balance family life and your photography business?

Lindsay Swinford: It is definitely a balancing act! We are a blended family of 6! Sometimes my kids are my greatest models or not. I do have a very supportive husband who is always there to lend a hand when I do leave the house for a few hours to do a shoot or session. I am so lucky!

Candie and Michelle: It's always wonderful to have support from a loving family. How do you like living in Rome, Ga.?

Lindsay Swinford: Compared to the rural farm town of Gaylesville,AL where I grew up, Rome is the bees knees!  I still live in the country but I am a short drive from town. It’s the best of both worlds!

Candie and Michelle: Where is your favorite location in Rome, Ga to do your photo shoots?

Lindsay Swinford: Rome is really rich in history, so there are tons of options. I enjoy Rolater Park (just outside of Rome), our beautiful downtown district and anyplace that is older and nostalgic. Some of my favorite pictures I have taken have been at a 50+ year old gas station near my house. 8.

Candie and Michelle: I agree the downtown district is very beautiful. We will have to check those other places out. Has any other photographers influenced your photography style?

Lindsay Swinford: I could really look at Annie Leibovitz work all day long. I find something different I like every time I look at her photographs. There are several other local photographers work I enjoy as well.

Candie and Michelle:
I'm looking forward to checking out her work. What are the biggest challenges you face as a photographer?

Lindsay Swinford: I am still learning more and more about my camera every time I pick it up! I wonder some days if I will ever figure it all out!

Candie and Michelle: LOL. I can relate to that. As the old saying goes, "Practice makes perfect." What is your favorite picture you have ever taken?

Lindsay Swinford: I love pictures of my babies that just sort of happened, that were not even planned! 1. My daughter Amelia and her Great Aunts pony, Corky. Is was sort of like she forgot I was there and was just jabbering(she was 19mo) to the pony, the both just looked at me at the same time and I snapped it! 2. My son Jaxson climbed on a step ladder outside and claimed it “The best day ever” as he laughed and laughed with the blue sky in the back ground! It makes my heart sing!

Candie and Michelle: Awww....those sound like two beautiful candid shots. What is the most memorable photograph you have ever taken?

Lindsay Swinford: When I was about 15 I took a beautiful picture at Little River Canyon in Fort Payne,AL. The waterfall was at a very high swell and the fall foliage was incredible! It won in a 4h photo contest.

Candie and Michelle: I've been there. I bet it really is beautiful that time of year. What is the weirdest photograph you have ever been asked to take?

Lindsay Swinford: I did a wedding last spring at a park named after the cave on site (Cave Spring). This beautiful bride in a beautiful gown wanted to take pictures inside the cave! So in this white gown with 3 people holding it as she walked through ankle deep  red mud barefoot we take pictures in this cave. She was incredibly happy with them and I lost a flat!

Candie and Michelle: I bet that was a memorable moment. I'm glad the pictures turned out good and the bride was happy. I wish I could have seen it. What is the one thing/place/person you have always wanted to photograph?

Lindsay Swinford: For a belated honeymoon my husband and I went to Washington D.C. for the 4th of July. I would love to go back with the camera I have now and capture the Washington monument fireworks.

Candie and Michelle: That would be beautiful. Maybe you will get to go back in the future. What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started out?

Lindsay Swinford: I have really learned more about posing and lighting in the past year than I ever knew before!

Candie and Michelle:
Is there any advice you would want to give to any aspiring photographers?

Lindsay Swinford: The best camera to shoot with is the one you have with you!  The camera on your smartphone can do wonders if you don’t have a camera! Don’t let not having a big dollar camera shy you away from something you love!

Candie and Michelle:  That is really good advice. Where do you see your photography taking you in the future?

Lindsay Swinford: I would love to just really do more! I hope to add a small indoor studio and lighting  to my home this year.

Candie and Michelle: Sounds like a really good goal to shoot for. I hope you get it. Please explain your photography packages for our readers?

Lindsay Swinford: My packages differ with seasonal specials. The most basic and popular one you will see are mini sessions that run around $40 for 30 min and include 9-10 edited images on a disc. These are geared toward seasons and holidays.

Candie and Michelle: If any of our readers are interested in your work what would be the best way to contact you?

Lindsay Swinford: I have several albums available to view on my facebook page! Please like, share, and message me there!  www.facebook.com/makeacameo

Thank you so much Lindsay for taking the time to sit down with us. We feel blessed to be featuring you this month. :)
