I would like to introduce "The Clever Colleen Nye" as our "Author of the Month" for the month of October. Here is the personal interview that we were blessed with.
Candie and Michelle: Have you always known you wanted to be a writer? Did anything happen to push you in that direction?
Colleen Nye: I think I've always loved writing and, aside from wanting to be an archaeologist, I wanted to be a writer. But I figured it's more fun to write my own worlds than uncover one that's already been done.
Candie and Michelle: I think it's pretty neat that you considered being an archaeologist. We, your fans, are so glad you decided to write though. How has life changed since your career has taken off?
Colleen Nye: I am more focused now. It actually feels real, and I dedicate a lot more effort into the whole thing.
Candie and Michelle: That's good. :) Is it hard to juggle having a family and being a writer at the same time? How do you do it?
Colleen Nye: It is simply because I'm a single mother, and my kids are young enough to still want a lot of my focus. It's hard to not give them my time when I need to be working.
Candie and Michelle: I understand that. Who has been your biggest supporter in your career so far?
Colleen Nye: My bestie, Stephanie. She's very flattering about my writing as well as helps spread the word.
Candie and Michelle: So glad you have that support system. What was the hardest part in getting your writing career started?
Colleen Nye: Making yourself sit and write. The story is already in my head. It's taking the time to get it on the page.
Candie and Michelle: You know I can relate to that now. :) For those who haven’t read your books yet how would you describe your writing style?
Colleen Nye: I don't know how to answer that. I know that my readers tell me that they can visualize my works like a movie when they read.
Candie and Michelle: That's a good thing. I love being able to visualize what I'm reading. Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
Colleen Nye: Not being able to write fast enough. LOL
Candie and Michelle: Lol. What is something you do to overcome writer’s block?
Colleen Nye: Turn the music up.
Candie and Michelle: I do that too. If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?
Colleen Nye: Greg Bear or Cassandra Clare
Candie and Michelle: Both of those are great writers. If you could have been the original author of any book, what would it have been and why?
Colleen Nye: Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instruments/Infernal Device series. Amazing books and so many different details, story lines and characters that it's amazing that she keeps them all in line.
Candie and Michelle: They are definitely on my TBR list. Out of all the books you have written so far which has been your favorite one to write?
Colleen Nye: I can't say. I had a blast writing both of them, and they're very different.
Candie and Michelle: We can't wait to read them. As a whole which character has been your favorite “good guy” to write about? Who has been your favorite villain?
Colleen Nye: My favorite "good guy" is Justin from When in Maui. To write a "celebrity crush" being "the perfect guy" type. It was fun to create that image. As far as "villain"? I'd have to say one of the characters in Immersion. You don't expect it, and if I tell you who it is, I'd give away a big twist of the book.
Candie and Michelle: We can't wait to meet Justin. I understand about not wanting to give too much away. Out of all your books do you feel like there is a particular character you relate to the most?
Colleen Nye: Vivianne.... there's a story behind why, but her personality is based off mine.
Candie and Michelle: Can't wait to meet her too. Is there anywhere that you have traveled to that has inspired you to use it one of your upcoming books?
Colleen Nye: Actually, I think most of the places mentioned have been places I want to go or haven't. I had to research them. Some I've mentioned that I've been to, but only because it went with the story plot.
Candie and Michelle: Okay :) What book are you reading now?
Colleen Nye: I have about 5 books in progress since I leave them staggered all over in my life to not have to carry them everywhere but be able to pick one up when I'm anywhere more or less. But actively reading? Carlyle Labuschange's The Broken Destiny.
Candie and Michelle: We will have to check it out. Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?
Colleen Nye: A lot. One of my favorite things about being an author is the networking. I have been able to meet authors from all longevity and abilities and genres.
Candie and Michelle: :) What advice would you give to your younger self?
Colleen Nye: Start writing NOW!
Candie and Michelle: Great advice! What advice do you give to other aspiring authors?
Colleen Nye: Write, network and get into a supportive group of authors that can help encourage and give advice.
Candie and Michelle: Also excellent advice. Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
Colleen Nye: Keep watch... big things are coming! My books are back up in eBook under my new publishing house, Blue Deco Publishing. They will be up in print again soon!
Candie and Michelle: Can't wait! How can readers discover more about you and you work?
Colleen Nye: MANY ways. I'm all over. But you can email me about my own writing at author.colleennye@gmail.com OR about my new publishing house at bluedecopublishing@gmail.com
