I would like to introduce New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author HP Mallory as my "Author of the Month" for the month of November. Here is the personal interview that I was blessed with.

Michelle: Tell us about yourself.

HP Mallory: Hi Everyone, I'm HP and I started my writing journey as a self-published author, back when Amazon and Barnes and Noble were just offering self-pubbing as an option. Since then, I've gone the traditional route of publishing but will always consider myself to be an indie at heart.

Michelle: Have you always known you wanted to be a writer? Did anything happen to push you in that direction?

HP Mallory: Yes, I have always wanted to be a writer, ever since I was a little girl. I always excelled in English and creative writing and finally made my dream a reality in 2010.

Michelle: I'm so glad that you decided to become an author. I love your books! As a whole which character has been your favorite “good guy” to write about? Who has been your favorite villain?  Do you feel like there is a particular character you relate to the most?

HP Mallory: My favorite character to write is by far angel Bill from the Lily Harper series. He was a huge departure for me in terms of the characters I'm used to writing because he's pretty crude but I so enjoy trying to come up with the new hilarious situations for him. While I would say that I am in all of my characters to an extent because I created them, I definitely relate to Jolie the most.

Michelle: I love Jolie and cough, cough Sinjin! I look forward to getting to know Bill when I read the Lily Harper series. What book are you reading now? Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?

HP Mallory: Sadly I'm not reading anything at the moment because I'm so busy trying to stick to my writing schedule! In the past, I've really enjoyed the Laurell K. Hamilton Anita Blake series and Charlaine Harris' Sookie series.

Michelle: I know the Sookie series very well. My best friend has read the entire series. I also featured Charlaine Harris on here before. Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

HP Mallory: I would just love to thank all of my readers for their loyalty! It can be very tough to be a writer and make a living at it and I really owe everything to my readers!

Thank you so much, HP, for taking the time to sit down with me. I feel blessed to be featuring you this month.

                                -Michelle Bradshaw

I would like to introduce you "The Sensational Shelby White" as our "Author of the Month" for the month of June. Here is the personal interview that we were blessed with.

Make sure you check out Shelby White's book  out NOW on Amazon. The Ouija Board.

Candie and Michelle: Tell us about yourself.

Shelby White: Hi all! My name is Shelby and I am a YA author from Northern California. My debut novel The Ouija Board was just published in December of last year and follows a group of 4 best friends who stumble upon a Ouija board for some late night entertainment and soon realize some games aren’t meant to be played with. This is the first book in "The Paranormal Adventure Series". I am currently writing book 2 of the same series which will be released later this year.

When I’m not writing I love the art of film, live theater and what they all share in common; the art of storytelling.

Candie and Michelle: We can't wait for book 2! Have you always known you wanted to be a writer? Did anything happen to push you in that direction?

Shelby White: I have always loved writing and have for as long as I can remember. When I was younger I would often write short stories for fun of anything that came to mind and inspired me. As I got older those stories continued to write and grow in size. As I continued to jot down my ideas on to paper they began to grow and morph into the novels I write today.

Candie and Michelle: We are so glad you chose to this path. In The Ouija Board, which character was your favorite “good guy” to write about? Who was your favorite villain? Do you feel like there is a particular character you relate to the most?

Shelby White: In The Ouija Board there were actually a lot of fun characters to write. The four best friends in this series, Alycia, Sarah, Lauren, and Sacha are very fun to write as they interact with each other. I relate to each of them and their characteristics, each with their own specific traits I think everyone has within themselves. An observant, fun loving, athletic, fashion forward, adventurous group of friends who are in for the experience of a lifetime.

I also enjoyed writing the interactions with these friends and Lady Sky, the eccentric medium they come in contact with, who helps them on their quest for answers. This creates a group of people we would think might never normally come in contact with each other and creates a whole different realm of possibilities. You never know what might come out of it and the relationship between these characters pleasantly surprised me when I finished writing book one and the direction book 2 will be taking.

Candie and Michelle: Misty has already gotten to now those gals. Candie and I can't wait to get to know them too. What books are you reading now? Have any authors grasped your interest?

Shelby White: I grew up really liking Meg Cabot’s books and enjoyed reading her series’. Later I found other great authors like Jen Calonita and her fantastic books and series’. Then actually over the past few years have found autobiographies to be an interesting read. Reading about fascinating peoples real lives and finding out more about the world around you.

Candie and Michelle: We will have to check those two authors out. :)  Anything else you want to say to your readers?

Shelby White: There’s nothing I appreciate more than the support of readers! The Ouija Board is out now on ebook and in paperback on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo and more! Ebooks are only .99 cents on all websites. Grab your copy today for a great summer read and gear up for book 2 out later this year!

Candie and Michelle: We can't wait!

Thank you so much, Shelby, for taking the time to sit down with us. We both feel blessed to be featuring you this month.

I would like to introduce "The Marvelous Martina McAtee" as our "Author of the Month" for the month of May. Here is the personal interview that we were blessed with.

Make sure you check out Martina McAtee's book  out NOW on Amazon.
Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things. Pre-order your copy of book 2 in the series, Dark Dreams and Dead Things

Candie and Michelle:
Tell us about yourself.

Martina McAtee:  Um, okay, about me. I write dark, snarky, young adult, paranormal romances. I am a mom to two teenagers, two chihuahuas, and two cats. I'm a vegan, a coffee addict, and a book lover (obviously). In my muggle life, I'm a registered nurse working in radiology.  I have one book out called Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things and the second book in the Dead Things series, Dark Dreams and Dead Things is due out in July.

Candie and Michelle:  Candie loved your first book and I am currently still reading it. We both can't wait for the second one. :) Have you always known you wanted to be a writer? Did anything happen to push you in that direction?

Martina McAtee:  I don't remember wanting to be a writer, I just was always writing. I remember my sister reading to me from a really early age and making up my own stories even before I could write. My first book was written with an orange crayon on one of my mom's legal pads. As I got older, I sort of fell away from writing fiction and began writing more academically. Then, I had a story idea that just wouldn't stop nagging me so I finally just sat down and wrote my first book.

Candie and Michelle: We are so glad you wrote it! As a whole, which character has been your favorite “good guy” to write about? Who has been your favorite villain?  Do you feel like there is a particular character you relate to the most?

Martina McAtee: My favorite good guy is Kai. He's funny and confident and so secure in who he is. His humor and life observations make him so much fun to write. Plus, he has some of the best romantic bickering. As for favorite villain...I'm not sure Mace is a villain, but it's safe to say his moral compass is permanently skewed. It's always fun to write somebody who is such an ass, but still so charming. I would have to say I relate most to Ember. She is a little bit of every girl in my family, myself included. She's sharp tongued and insecure, but goodhearted.

Candie and Michelle: Candie said she loved all three of those characters. What book are you reading now? Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?

Martina McAtee:  I'm reading NOS4A2 by Joe Hill. It's excellent. Very scary and deeply disturbing. There are a couple of new authors I'm loving right now. Raye Wagner, S.E. Summa, and Krystal Wade all have excellent books out right now.

Candie and Michelle: We will have to check them out. :) Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

Martina McAtee:  I love all of my readers and I'm so grateful you guys have gone on this journey with me. I love interacting with all of you on my social media. If you see me online, say hi. Also, book two is on pre-order as of May 1st, so I hope you are excited to get your hands on it.

Candie and Michelle: We are EXCITED!

Thank you so much Martina for taking the time to sit down with us. We both feel blessed to be featuring you this month.

The Fascinating K R Fajardo

I would like to introduce "The Fascinating K R Fajardo" as our "Author of the Month" for the month of April. Here is the personal interview that we were blessed with.

Make sure you check out K R Fajardo's book Linked (The Shadow Chronicles Book Two) out NOW on Amazon. Get your copy today!

Candie & Michelle: Tell us about yourself.

K R Fajardo: I am a married mother of three wonderful children who calls the piney woods of East Texas home.  Some of my favorite things are Dr. Pepper, chocolate, and, with the exception of Garth Brooks, will take an 80’s hair band over Country music any day of the week.  However, my real love is reading, so at the end of a long day of being wife, mom, chauffeur, nurse, and book keeper for my husband’s business, I love to settle into bed with a good book and transport myself into another world. It was this passion that led me to writing and, in 2014, after much consideration, I decided to take a chance on myself and attempted to write my own book. Now a completed novel, K The Awakening is available for purchase on Amazon, and its sequel, Linked, is out now on Amazon. Get your copy today!

Candie & Michelle:  It's so nice to get to know you better K R. Have you always known you wanted to be a writer? Did anything happen to push you in that direction?

K R Fajardo:  I have had the desire to write for as long as I can remember, but always came up with excuses as to why I couldn’t do it, time usually being the number one reason. However, several years ago, after my youngest started to school, and with me only working part-time, I found myself with a significant amount of free time and lack of any other reasonable answer as to why I shouldn’t try. It was then I finally put my own self-doubt aside and turned on my laptop. Six months later, I was staring at a completed 120,000 word manuscript with no idea what to do with it. Then, one day, while I was browsing online, I came across this online article about a famous Indie writer named Hugh Howey and how he had made a fortune self-publishing his own novels using Amazon’s Kindle Direct. So, after a little more research, I found the website, uploaded my book, and self-published my first novel.

Candie & Michelle:   We are so glad you decided to travel the path to become an author. As a whole which character has been your favorite “good guy” to write about? Who has been your favorite villain?  Do you feel like there is a particular character you relate to the most?

K R Fajardo:   Probably the closest thing I have to a “good guy” in my book is Citera. Who, despite only being sixteen years old, is extremely mature, thoughtful, and always manages to find a silver lining in even the most depressing of situations. As far as “bad guys” go, I definitely have to go with the Enforcer, aka Jarod, even though I consider him more of an anti-hero than a villain. He was also one of my favorites to write about because the further you get into the story, the more complex his character becomes and continues to become in the upcoming sequels.  He is the type of character that you will find yourself continuously alternating between hating his guts and wanting to wrap your arms around him to cry on his shoulder. Do I relate myself to any of the characters in my book? I would love to say I see K in myself.  After all, she is a no nonsense woman who doesn’t put up with anybody’s crap.  Underneath that tough exterior is a kindhearted soul that is willing to do whatever it takes to protect the people she cares for and make things right again.

Candie & Michelle:  We can't wait to read your books and get to know each character. What book are you reading now?  Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?

K R Fajardo:  Oh my goodness! Since joining Anchor Group, my TBR list just continues to keep growing. Currently, however, I am in the middle of three books! First of all I am finishing up with Jennifer Malone Wright’s Savior, which I have thoroughly enjoyed and look forward to one day reading her Vampire Hunter series. I have also just begun to read St. Valentine by Rain Murphey and the newest release, The Best I Could, by one of my all-time favorite indie authors, RK Ryals.

Candie & Michelle:  Each of those are already on my TBR list. I can't wait to read them too. Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

K R Fajardo:  I just want to take a minute to thank everyone who has helped me make my dream a reality. You guys have no idea how much the kind words you write in the reviews and the messages that I receive from people telling me they enjoyed my books really warms my heart and encourages me to keep going on days that it seems easier just to give up and quit. I also want to take this opportunity to just say to those of you out there who are letting self-doubt and fear keep them you from pursuing thier dream, just push those thoughts aside and go for it; because you will never know what will happen if you never try. And with that I leave you with one of my favorite quotes.
“When you are afraid of trying something new, remember this. Amateurs built the ark, professionals built the Titanic.” – Anonymous.

Candie & Michelle:  Great advice! I love that quote!

Thank you so much K R for taking the time to sit down with us. We both feel blessed to be featuring you this month.

The Memorable Mike Ragland

2/10/2016

I would like to introduce "The Memorable Mike Ragland" as our "Author of the Month" for the month of February. Here is the personal interview that we were blessed with.

Candie & Michelle: Tell us about yourself.

Mike Ragland: I was born and raised in the Cotton Mill village of Lindale, Georgia. Both Parents were avid readers. I can remember my mother being in a Book of the Month Club, and I still have some of those books. She died when I was fifteen.

I worked in the Mill during the summers, and J.C. Penney's during the year while finishing Pepperell High. Graduating in 1963, I joined the Navy and Volunteered for Submarine Duty.

I received orders to the USS Chopper ( SS 342 ) home ported in Key West. For the next three and a half years we visited nearly ever major port on the east coast. We were in the North Atlantic on barrier patrol, in Cuba counting Russian ships. Spent six months with the sixth fleet in the Mediterranean. Visited many Caribbean ports, and a couple in South America.

After being discharged, I applied for and was accepted by the Rome Police Department where I remained for forty years, rising to the Rank of Major.
Retiring in April 2007, I began my Writing Career....

Candie & Michelle: Thank you for your service to our country and the city of Rome. Have you always known you wanted to be a writer? Did anything happen to push you in that direction?

Mike Ragland:
I've always enjoyed hooking words together and reading a variety of books. The last fifteen years I was on the P.D., one of my duties was being principal grant writer.

After retiring, I wondered what I would do to occupy my time. Everyone says they're going to travel (my wife is disabled, and I knew that wasn't going to happen). Being a fan of history, I thought about writing some columns for the local newspaper on little known local facts. I sent in a few and they printed them. After a year of columns, I thought it was time to try a novel.

Candie & Michelle:  All of your fans are glad you chose to write your books. :)  What was the hardest part in getting your writing career started?

Mike Ragland: Wow!  Let's see. The discipline to make myself sit and begin. It still is. I don't write on a deadline, nor on a contract. I write because I enjoy it, when I enjoy it. To me it's not a case of have to, it's a case of want to. Strange as it may sound, I may go days without writing a word.  Then one or two of my characters will get in my head and start telling me what's going on in their lives, where they are, where they're going, and where the story is going. I basically just follow along, watching them, taking dictation. This may last an hour or two, or go on for days. When it's the latter, with the story pouring forth, I get very little rest. Those are the times I love. When characters come to life, it's a great moment.

Candie & Michelle: Yes it is. My characters usually are born by visiting me in my dreams first.  For those who haven’t read your books yet how would you describe your writing style?

Mike Ragland: I write in a thing called third person unlimited, which means I'm the invisible guy in the room, the fly on the wall, just taking dictation. I have no more idea what the characters are going to do next, no more than the reader does. I use a lot of dialogue. That's what makes the story take off. I'm not big on descriptive narrative. I won't spend two pages telling you she wore a blue dress. There are pitfalls with the style I use. If you're not careful, you can have so many characters the reader gets lost. I have to be careful with that. My books are action packed and are on the fast line. I've had to add slow down spots so readers can catch their breath.

Candie & Michelle:  I know a lot of friends that love to read a fast paced book. I'll have to ask them if they have read yours. :) Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?

Mike Ragland:
Even though I write historical fiction, I want to have as much fact in the story as possible. In the latest, "Time to Gather Stones", it's set in the Southern mountains in 1715-16. The story is fiction, but the way the Native Americans live, eat, and dress is correct. The research that precedes my novels is as correct as I can make it.

Candie & Michelle: That's what makes your books so great. What is something you do to overcome writer’s block?

Mike Ragland:
I really seldom have a block. I usually write when I feel the characters have something to say. I don't struggle that way. Since I'm in no hurry or on a timeline, it comes pretty easy.

Candie & Michelle:  That's good. If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?

Mike Ragland:
There are several. John Steinbeck, Clive Cussler, Mark Twain, Louis L'amour, and, my favorite, Earnest Hemingway. I've enjoyed them all. They were masters of the simple word. They never use a page when a paragraph will do.

Candie & Michelle: All amazing choices! If you could have been the original author of any book, what would it have been and why?

Mike Ragland:
Probably "The Grapes of Wrath" by John Steinbeck.... Why ..??... Because it deals with a little known time in history.... The great Dust Bowl in the midwest during another traumatic time in history.. The Depression.. Then takes into account the great Migration from Oklahoma to California... With a lot of Biblical paraphrasing built into the Story.... A classic indeed.....

Candie & Michelle: That book is definitely a great choice! As a whole which character has been your favorite “good guy” to write about? Who has been your favorite villain?

Mike Ragland:
Let me reverse the order of the Question. Bertha, the title of my first book was a great villain. I guess because she was a real person. Indicted and tried twice for poisoning her second husband. Indicted for poisoning her parents. Accused but never investigated for killing her two week old baby, she manipulated both men and women. A pure sociopath before the word was invented.  My favorite hero would have to be "Liube" in my latest story, "A Time to Gather Stones". She had to endure so many personal tragedies, and yet was able to do so with style and grace. I think we may meet her again in another segment.....

Candie & Michelle: Both sound like unforgettable characters. :) Out of all your books do you feel like there is a particular character you relate to the most?

Mike Ragland:
Probably Frank Russell, the Chief investigator in "Bertha." I policed for 40 years and investigated many murder cases just as Frank is doing. Yes, we used different techniques, but it still consist a lot of leg work.

Candie & Michelle: :) Is there anywhere that you have traveled to that has inspired you to use it one of your upcoming books?

Mike Ragland:
I Love the Southern Mountains. I used them extensively in "Stones". I also like the Southern port cities of New Orleans, Mobile, Savannah, and Charleston. Look for any of those to appear in future novels as we travel back in time....

Candie & Michelle: Can't wait! What book are you reading now?Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?

Mike Ragland: I am a big Terry Kay fan. Presently reading the "Valley of Light" for the third time. Not for contact, but just to see how he strings words together. I think he's a modern master. Now, for a new author. Hmm, that would have to be Victoria Wilcox. Her attention to detail and research is impeccable. I've been fortunate to have attended book signings and sharing a table wit her.... Just listening is a seminar in itself....

Candie & Michelle: We will have to check them both out. What advice would you give to your younger self?

Mike Ragland:
Read even more than I did, in different genres. Read everything you can get your hands on. When in college, grab a creative writing class or two.

Candie & Michelle: Good advice. What advice do you give to other aspiring authors?

Mike Ragland: The same thing everybody says. Write, and keep writing. You learn to write by putting words on paper...

Candie & Michelle: Completely agree. Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

Mike Ragland:
No matter how much you write, nor how good you become, after you've finished all your rewrites... Make sure you have a good editor.

Candie & Michelle: :)

Thank you so much Mike for taking the time to sit down with us. We both feel blessed to be featuring you this month.

The Keen Kristin Clark

I would like to introduce "The Keen Kristin Clark" as our "Author of the Month" for the month of January. Here is the personal interview that we were blessed with.

Candie and Michelle:
Have you always known you wanted to be a writer? Did anything happen to push you in that direction?

Kristin Clark: No I didn’t. I always loved to write. I was always writing stories. I lived in a fantasy world and believed in fairy tales. When I was younger I would have to go to work with my dad, he was in the Army. His office was boring. I think computers were just starting to come out but I would play on the type writer. I would sit down and write stories. I never thought about making a career out of it. I think when I realized that I loved to write and would one day want to write novels, was my freshman year in college. I absolutely loved my English class. When we received a creative writing assignment I fell in love with writing again. My professor told me I had a gift of an imagination that would take you to another world.

Candie and Michelle:   Your fans are so glad you chose to walk this path. What was the hardest part in getting your writing career started?

Kristin Clark:   The hardest part was finding the time to write but once I picked up the pen I couldn’t stop.

Candie and Michelle: :) For those who haven’t read your books yet, how would you describe your writing style?

Kristin Clark:   I would say I am very descriptive. I want to put you into my world and see what I see.

Candie and Michelle:  I love it when an author can paint a picture for me.
Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?

Kristin Clark:   Yes, I can write you a story based off a cover design or a title. I can think of an entire plot in a matter of minutes but I will be the first to admit that I am not an editor, which is why I depend so heavily on my editor to keep me in check, making sure I put commas  where they belong and I don’t over run sentences.

Candie and Michelle:   I would have to agree. Editing can be rough.
What is something you do to overcome writer’s block?

Kristin Clark:  I listen to music, clean the house, and work in the yard. I find that my mind wanders off when I am busy doing other things and my greatest ideas will come to me. That is also why I have sticky notes everywhere and am constantly texting myself ideas.

Candie and Michelle: Ha ha. I am always leaving myself voice memos. If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?

Kristin Clark:    I don’t know if I have a mentor per say but I do look up to Tara Brown, one of my favorite writers who is so successful and a big inspiration.

Candie and Michelle:  Tara Brown is amazing! If you could have been the original author of any book, what would it have been and why?

Kristin Clark: I couldn’t be the original author of any other book other than my own. It just wouldn’t be the same. My favorite book is Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks.

Candie and Michelle:   I feel the same way. As a whole which character has been your favorite “good guy” to write about? Who has been your favorite villain?

Kristin Clark:  My favorite “good guy” to write about would be Ethan in my debut novel The Chosen. He is protective and brave and would walk through fire for Chloe. My favorite villain to write about is a character that makes an appearance in Unveiled, not yet released. I can’t elaborate any more than that. ;)

Candie and Michelle:  Can't wait to meet both of them. In your book do you feel like there is a particular character you relate to the most?

Kristin Clark:   I think I relate to Chloe the most. She is average and faced so many obstacles and all she really wants is for life to go back to how it used to be. She embraces it though and gets through it.

Candie and Michelle:   :) Is there anywhere that you have traveled to that has inspired you to use it one of your upcoming books?

Kristin Clark:  I have not traveled abroad yet but Ireland is going to be my first stamp on my pass port. I can’t wait to go there and see everything there is to see. I plan on getting a lot of writing done.

Candie and Michelle:   I would love to go to Ireland too! What book are you reading now?

Kristin Clark:   I am reading the #series by my awesome friend Cambria Herbert. I think this is my favorite series she has so far.

Candie and Michelle;  We will have to check out her books. What advice would you give to your younger self?

Kristin Clark: Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Sometimes the choices we made are not the choices that we would have made looking back now but they are what shaped us into who we are today.

Candie and Michelle: Great advice! What advice do you give to other aspiring authors?

Kristin Clark:  Don’t ever give up!

Candie and Michelle: Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

Kristin Clark: Dream big!

Candie and Michelle:  How can readers discover more about you and you work?

Getting to know Michelle Jetton

As many of you know, Michelle's book came out November 5th. It is now available on Amazon Kindle, Nook, and in paperback. We thought it was only fair that she be featured this month.

Candie Bradfield:
Have you always known you wanted to be a writer? Did anything happen to push you in that direction?

Michelle Jetton: I've always loved writing, even as a young child. My first book, if you want to call it that, was in Mrs. Henderson's 7th Grade Class. After that you could find me writing in my journal, making radio shows, and creating scripts for home videos with my friends. I didn't really get serious about writing until a period of darkness in my life. Writing became my escape, my outlet, from the reality of what was going on. Amelia was birthed in a dream during that time and I woke up having to know what happened.

Candie Bradfield; I'm so sorry to hear that you had to go through that but I am very glad to see that you have overcome it and seem stronger for doing so. I am also very thankful that you had that dream.
Is it hard to juggle having a family and being a writer at the same time? How do you do it?

Michelle Jetton: Yes it can be quite trying especially when I am focused on my writing and my son sticks a loud toy in my ear. Lol. It's all about time management for me. I have a schedule and I try to stick to it.

Candie Bradfield: Ha Ha. I understand completely since I have a son myself. I agree, I find it easier to get things done when I have a time line to follow.
What was the hardest part in getting your writing career started?

Michelle Jetton:  Getting someone to give me and my book a chance.

Candie Bradfield: I imagine that would be frustrating after spending all that time writing a book for it to seem like no one finds it interesting. I have read it and it would have been a shame for no one else to be able to.
For those who haven’t read your books yet, how would you describe your writing style?

Michelle Jetton:   I try to make my characters feel relatable and real. I find myself daily thinking what would Amelia do in this situation. Ha ha

Candie Bradfield: I think you did an awesome job at making them feel real. I loved that the story not only had magic but it also had everyday problems. When the characters talked about the past or were dealing with the present, I was always in the moment, feeling the emotions that they were. I appreciated the fact that they were flawed and candid.
Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?

Michelle Jetton:   Picking names because I put so much thought and effort into them.

Candie Bradfield: Clever, I've never given that much thought until now. I guess it would be a little weird to have a character who was suppose to be sweet named Cruella, lol.
What is something you do to overcome writer’s block?

Michelle Jetton:  I get up and leave the computer. I watch a movie or listen to music. Music is my muse.

Candie Bradfield:   If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?

Michelle Jetton:  I know this has probably been said by a lot of people, but J.K. Rowling. She proved single Moms could do anything.

Candie Bradfield:  I will agree with that. She is a remarkable woman. If you could have been the original author of any book, what would it have been and why?

Michelle Jetton:  I would have to say none of them because the books we love wouldn't be the same book if written by someone else.

Candie Bradfield:  Wow! That's a great answer and 100% true.
As a whole which character has been your favorite “good guy” to write about? Who has been your favorite villain?

Michelle Jetton:  Matthew Fairchild holds a special place in my heart. He is the boy next door that every teenage girl would like to date. My favorite villain is coming up in book 2. His name is Derik. You will meet him soon. ;)

Candie Bradfield: Yes, I would have to say, that Matthew is one of the sweetest book boyfriends that I have ever fallen for. No one can hold a candle to him. Ooh, I can't wait to meet Derik and see what kind of trouble he causes.
In your book do you feel like there is a particular character you relate to the most?

Michelle Jetton:  Definitely Amelia. She is my younger self.

Candie Bradfield: Since I do know you personally, I can't help but notice the similarities. I think that is very brave of you to put yourself out there like that. I also think it's the reason she is so relate-able as a character, because she is a piece of yourself.
Is there anywhere that you have traveled to that has inspired you to use it one of your upcoming books?

Michelle Jetton:  The story takes place in Cave Spring, GA. You will read about more of the town's landmarks in book 2.

Candie Bradfield: I have been there and think it's makes the perfect backdrop for this story. I can't wait to see what happens next book when they venture out into the city. What book are you reading now?

Michelle Jetton:  Awaken by Christy Sloat, Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things by Martina McAtee, and a few others. Lol

Candie Bradfield; I have read Awaken and it is a great book! I am also  reading Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things, I love it so far and it's definitely a book I would recommend. Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?

Michelle Jetton: Definitely Martina McAtee and Robert Beatty

Candie Bradfield:  Yes! Serafina and the Black Cloak by Robert Beatty is a must! What advice would you give to your younger self?

Michelle Jetton:  Keep moving forward! There are better days ahead! You have a purpose. He has a plan. Don't listen to the haters.

Candie Bradfield; Excellent advice! I think we all need to be reminded this at some point in our life.
What advice do you give to other aspiring authors?

Michelle Jetton:  Don't let a "no" stop you from living your dream. Take their rejection as constructive criticism and know that your book just wasn't for them. Keep trying and don't give up. Don't let anyone tell you your dreams aren't good enough. With faith and perseverance you can make them happen.

Candie Bradfield: I couldn't agree more.
Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

Michelle Jetton: Thank you so much for giving Amelia a chance. It is because of you that the book is doing so well. (Please leave a review on Amazon, Goodreads, and Barnes and Noble after you've read it. It really helps authors out.)

Candie Bradfield: Thank you for writing such a magical world for us to escape into. I don't think that is to much to ask. Just a little copy and past action after it's written. ;o)

Candie Bradfield: How can readers discover more about you and you work?

The Joyful Jeff Kinney

11/16/2015

Picture

I would like to introduce "The Joyful Jeff Kinney" as our "Author of the Month" for the month of November. Here is the personal interview that we were blessed with.

Candie and Michelle: Have you always known you wanted to be a writer? Did anything happen to push you in that direction?

Jeff Kinney: No, but I dreamed of being a cartoonist! I never set out to be an author... it happened on accident.  I really had wanted my work to be published in comic strips, but the only way I could get anyone to read my work was to put it in book form.

Candie and Michelle: How has life changed since your career has taken off?

Jeff Kinney: I’ve gotten to travel all over the world, and have opportunities that I otherwise wouldn’t have.  A highlight was getting the chance to create a Greg Heffley balloon to fly in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Candie and Michelle:   Wow...what a really neat experience. What was the hardest part in getting your writing career started?

Jeff Kinney: When I sent out sample packets of my material (which was an on-going process for about 3 years), I would receive extremely discouraging responses.  Many of these rejection letters began “Dear Creator,” they didn’t even use my name, mention my work, or give me any kind of feedback that I could build from.  They simply said “No.”  That was really frustrating to me.

Candie and Michelle:   I know how you feel about that. For those who haven’t read your books yet how would you describe your writing style?

Jeff Kinney: I'd call my style "polished seventh grade."

Candie and Michelle:     :) Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?

Jeff Kinney:   I write jokes for about six months per book. Then I collect them and see what kind of plot the books suggest.  But, the jokes don’t pour out of me.  It’s really difficult for me to think of enough material to get to the point where I can actually write the book.

Candie and Michelle:   What is something you do to overcome writer’s block?

Jeff Kinney: I sit and I sit and I sit and I sit. If I'm lucky, I can come up with one joke every hour and a half.

Candie and Michelle: Out of all the books you have written so far which has been your favorite one to write?

Jeff Kinney: My favorite will always be the first one, because before that I didn’t have any success.  However, I think that number 9 is the best written. I'm getting a little better at it as I go.

Candie and Michelle:   :) As a whole which character has been your favorite “good guy” to write about?

Jeff Kinney: I think my favorite character is Rowley, because he likes being a kid. Not every kid does!

Candie and Michelle: Rowley is definitely a great character. Out of all your books do you feel like there is a particular character you relate to the most?

Jeff Kinney: I'd say Greg is the most similar to me. Although he's an exaggerated version of myself. I was full of flaws as a kid (and still am as a grown-up), but Greg's faults are amplified.

Candie and Michelle:   Greg is an awesome character too. Is there anywhere that you have traveled to that has inspired you to use it one of your upcoming books?

Jeff Kinney: Yes, I went away to Puerto Rico when I was working on Book 9.  There’s a seagull scene in the book which was inspired by that trip, along with many other jokes.

Candie and Michelle: What advice do you give to other aspiring authors?

Jeff Kinney: If you have a good idea, nurture it over time. Writing is like anything else... it takes years to get really good at it. And find someone who will offer you tough criticism!

Candie and Michelle:  Good advice. :) How can readers discover more about you and you work?

Jeff Kinney: They can view the Wimpy Kid YouTube Channel!  https://www.youtube.com/wimpykid

Thank you so much Jeff for taking the time to sit down with us. We both feel blessed to be featuring you this month.

I would like to introduce "The Clever Colleen Nye" as our "Author of the Month" for the month of October. Here is the personal interview that we were blessed with.

Candie and Michelle:  Have you always known you wanted to be a writer? Did anything happen to push you in that direction?

Colleen Nye:    I think I've always loved writing and, aside from wanting to be an archaeologist, I wanted to be a writer. But I figured it's more fun to write my own worlds than uncover one that's already been done.

Candie and Michelle:  I think it's pretty neat that you considered being an archaeologist. We, your fans, are so glad you decided to write though. How has life changed since your career has taken off?

Colleen Nye:   I am more focused now. It actually feels real, and I dedicate a lot more effort into the whole thing.

Candie and Michelle: That's good. :)  Is it hard to juggle having a family and being a writer at the same time? How do you do it?

Colleen Nye:   It is simply because I'm a single mother, and my kids are young enough to still want a lot of my focus. It's hard to not give them my time when I need to be working.

Candie and Michelle:  I understand that. Who has been your biggest supporter in your career so far?

Colleen Nye: My bestie, Stephanie. She's very flattering about my writing as well as helps spread the word.

Candie and Michelle:  So glad you have that support system. What was the hardest part in getting your writing career started?

Colleen Nye:  Making yourself sit and write. The story is already in my head. It's taking the time to get it on the page.

Candie and Michelle: You know I can relate to that now. :) For those who haven’t read your books yet how would you describe your writing style?

Colleen Nye:  I don't know how to answer that. I know that my readers tell me that they can visualize my works like a movie when they read.

Candie and Michelle:  That's a good thing. I love being able to visualize what I'm reading. Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?

Colleen Nye:  Not being able to write fast enough. LOL

Candie and Michelle:   Lol. What is something you do to overcome writer’s block?

Colleen Nye:  Turn the music up.

Candie and Michelle:  I do that too. If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?

Colleen Nye:  Greg Bear or Cassandra Clare

Candie and Michelle:  Both of those are great writers. If you could have been the original author of any book, what would it have been and why?

Colleen Nye:  Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instruments/Infernal Device series. Amazing books and so many different details, story lines and characters that it's amazing that she keeps them all in line.

Candie and Michelle:   They are definitely on my TBR list. Out of all the books you have written so far which has been your favorite one to write?

Colleen Nye:   I can't say. I had a blast writing both of them, and they're very different.

Candie and Michelle: We can't wait to read them. As a whole which character has been your favorite “good guy” to write about? Who has been your favorite villain?

Colleen Nye: My favorite "good guy" is Justin from When in Maui. To write a "celebrity crush" being "the perfect guy" type. It was fun to create that image. As far as "villain"? I'd have to say one of the characters in Immersion. You don't expect it, and if I tell you who it is, I'd give away a big twist of the book.

Candie and Michelle:  We can't wait to meet Justin. I understand about not wanting to give too much away. Out of all your books do you feel like there is a particular character you relate to the most?

Colleen Nye: Vivianne.... there's a story behind why, but her personality is based off mine.

Candie and Michelle:  Can't wait to meet her too. Is there anywhere that you have traveled to that has inspired you to use it one of your upcoming books?

Colleen Nye:  Actually, I think most of the places mentioned have been places I want to go or haven't. I had to research them. Some I've mentioned that I've been to, but only because it went with the story plot.

Candie and Michelle:  Okay :) What book are you reading now?

Colleen Nye: I have about 5 books in progress since I leave them staggered all over in my life to not have to carry them everywhere but be able to pick one up when I'm anywhere more or less. But actively reading? Carlyle Labuschange's The Broken Destiny.

Candie and Michelle:  We will have to check it out. Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?

Colleen Nye:  A lot. One of my favorite things about being an author is the networking. I have been able to meet authors from all longevity and abilities and genres.

Candie and Michelle:  :) What advice would you give to your younger self?

 Colleen Nye:  Start writing NOW!

Candie and Michelle:  Great advice! What advice do you give to other aspiring authors?

Colleen Nye:   Write, network and get into a supportive group of authors that can help encourage and give advice.

Candie and Michelle:  Also excellent advice. Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

Colleen Nye:  Keep watch... big things are coming! My books are back up in eBook under my new publishing house, Blue Deco Publishing. They will be up in print again soon!

Candie and Michelle:  Can't wait! How can readers discover more about you and you work?

"The Stellar Stacey Rourke"

I would like to introduce "The Stellar Stacey Rourke" as our "Author of the Month" for the month of September. Here is the personal interview that we were blessed with.

Candie and Michelle: Have you always known you wanted to be a writer? Did anything happen to push you in that direction?

Stacey Rourke: I have always written, I did NOT always want to be a writer. Writing was something I did, it was part of who I was. However I never even considered being a writer until after I finished college, trying numerous other career paths, had my kids, and THEN wrote my first full manuscript. Only then did a little light bulb flicker on over my head and I realized what I should have been doing all along. I didn't choose writing, it chose me and I couldn't be happier about that.

Candie and Michelle: We are so glad it did choose you. How has life changed since your career has taken off?

Stacey Rourke: It's more hectic in a wonderful way! I travel a lot more and never seem to have a day off because even when I do my mind is always on the next story or chapter I need to be working on.

Candie and Michelle: We understand what you're saying. Is it hard to juggle having a family and being a writer at the same time? How do you do it?

Stacey Rourke: It can be tricky, but I am fortunate enough to have a very understanding family. They juggle things around and help me out so I can continue to chase this crazy dream of mine.

Candie and Michelle: Awww. :) Who has been your biggest supporter in your career so far?

Stacey Rourke: My husband. He is my partner, my sounding board, and my anchor that keeps me rooted when my gypsy spirit gets carried away.

Candie and Michelle: We are so glad that you have that support system. What was the hardest part in getting your writing career started?

Stacey Rourke: The literary world is evolving right now. Different avenues for publishing have made it possible that for everyone that wants to write a book to throw their hat in the ring. This has flooded the market with material. Working to stand out within that onslaught of talent has been the hardest part without a doubt.

Candie and Michelle:  I can now say I understand where you are coming from. For those who haven’t read your books yet how would you describe your writing style?

Stacey Rourke: Dark and twisted story lines with snarky humor weaved through them. That pretty much describes them to a T.

Candie and Michelle: Makes me want to read your books even more. Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?

Stacey Rourke: I seek out new challenges all the time! I'm constantly trying to find new writing hurdles to conquer; be it a new genre, switching up my usual POV, or tackling one literature's greatest legends. As authors its easily to fall into a pattern and stick to a "formula" with each book. I try to change things up and try something new with each book!

Candie and Michelle:  Those are words all of us authors should live by. What is something you do to overcome writer’s block?

Stacey Rourke: Just write. Sit down and get words out. Even if it will have to be completely rewritten later on, or it's a section from a completely different story, get something out. I try to get at least 1000 words out a day. It may not seem like much, but each word is a brick that will eventually build your book!

Candie and Michelle: Great advice! If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?

Stacey Rourke: I'm not sure I could pick just one! King's twisted mind, Rowling's world building, Meyer's mob appeal, Patterson's drive; I would love to pick the minds of each and everyone of the greats!

Candie and Michelle:  All great choices. If you could have been the original author of any book, what would it have been and why?

Stacey Rourke: Harry Potter! JK Rowling owns a castle thanks to that book! A CASTLE! I like castles ...

Candie and Michelle:  I can see it now....Castle Rourke. :) Out of all the books you have written so far which has been your favorite one to write?

Stacey Rourke: The entire Legends Saga is my pride and joy. It's so dark and twisted and I enjoyed every minute of the process of creating it!

Candie and Michelle: That series is definitely on TBR list. As a whole which character has been your favorite “good guy” to write about?

Stacey Rourke: Celeste in the Gryphon Series was my favorite "good guy." She is so strong, and selfless it's truly inspirational.

Candie and Michelle: Can't wait to get to know her. Out of all your books do you feel like there is a particular character you relate to the most?

Stacey Rourke: Honestly, I think there's a little bit of me in all my characters. In each of them I find some element I can relate to.

Candie and Michelle: :)  Is there anywhere that you have traveled to that has inspired you to use it one of your upcoming books?

Stacey Rourke: Recently I drove through the mountains of Virginia, it was so gorgeous I definitely think I will have to use that setting for a scene at some point.

Candie and Michelle: I bet that was beautiful. What book are you reading now?

Stacey Rourke: Right now I am reading Spelled by Betsy Schow.

Candie and Michelle: Will have to add that to my TBR list. Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?

Stacey Rourke: Each and every author at Anchor Group Publishing catches my attention!

Candie and Michelle: I am so thankful to be one of them. What advice would you give to your younger self?

Stacey Rourke: Believe in yourself, stop trying to fit into boxes and norms you were never meant to fit into and just write.

Candie an Michelle: Excellent advice. What advice do you give to other aspiring authors?

Stacey Rourke: Read. It was Stephen King that said only by reading can writers gain the tools they need to write. I like to branch out in different genres, get different flavors and methods I can apply to my own writing!

Candie and Michelle:  Well said Stacey! Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

Stacey Rourke: Thank you for all your support, I wouldn't be were I am today without you. And here is my promise to you; you keep reading them and I'll keep writing them!

Candie and Michelle: How can readers discover more about you and you work?

Stacey Rourke: They can find me at www.staceyrourke.com, www.facebook.com/staceyrourkeauthor, diaryofasemicrazyauthor.blogspot.com, or Twitter and Instagram @rourkewrites

Stacey's book "Steam" is out NOW!! Go check it out!!!
