I would like to introduce "The Keen Kristin Clark" as our "Author of the Month" for the month of January. Here is the personal interview that we were blessed with.
Candie and Michelle: Have you always known you wanted to be a writer? Did anything happen to push you in that direction?
Kristin Clark: No I didn’t. I always loved to write. I was always writing stories. I lived in a fantasy world and believed in fairy tales. When I was younger I would have to go to work with my dad, he was in the Army. His office was boring. I think computers were just starting to come out but I would play on the type writer. I would sit down and write stories. I never thought about making a career out of it. I think when I realized that I loved to write and would one day want to write novels, was my freshman year in college. I absolutely loved my English class. When we received a creative writing assignment I fell in love with writing again. My professor told me I had a gift of an imagination that would take you to another world.
Candie and Michelle: Your fans are so glad you chose to walk this path. What was the hardest part in getting your writing career started?
Kristin Clark: The hardest part was finding the time to write but once I picked up the pen I couldn’t stop.
Candie and Michelle: :) For those who haven’t read your books yet, how would you describe your writing style?
Kristin Clark: I would say I am very descriptive. I want to put you into my world and see what I see.
Candie and Michelle: I love it when an author can paint a picture for me. Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
Kristin Clark: Yes, I can write you a story based off a cover design or a title. I can think of an entire plot in a matter of minutes but I will be the first to admit that I am not an editor, which is why I depend so heavily on my editor to keep me in check, making sure I put commas where they belong and I don’t over run sentences.
Candie and Michelle: I would have to agree. Editing can be rough. What is something you do to overcome writer’s block?
Kristin Clark: I listen to music, clean the house, and work in the yard. I find that my mind wanders off when I am busy doing other things and my greatest ideas will come to me. That is also why I have sticky notes everywhere and am constantly texting myself ideas.
Candie and Michelle: Ha ha. I am always leaving myself voice memos. If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?
Kristin Clark: I don’t know if I have a mentor per say but I do look up to Tara Brown, one of my favorite writers who is so successful and a big inspiration.
Candie and Michelle: Tara Brown is amazing! If you could have been the original author of any book, what would it have been and why?
Kristin Clark: I couldn’t be the original author of any other book other than my own. It just wouldn’t be the same. My favorite book is Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks.
Candie and Michelle: I feel the same way. As a whole which character has been your favorite “good guy” to write about? Who has been your favorite villain?
Kristin Clark: My favorite “good guy” to write about would be Ethan in my debut novel The Chosen. He is protective and brave and would walk through fire for Chloe. My favorite villain to write about is a character that makes an appearance in Unveiled, not yet released. I can’t elaborate any more than that. ;)
Candie and Michelle: Can't wait to meet both of them. In your book do you feel like there is a particular character you relate to the most?
Kristin Clark: I think I relate to Chloe the most. She is average and faced so many obstacles and all she really wants is for life to go back to how it used to be. She embraces it though and gets through it.
Candie and Michelle: :) Is there anywhere that you have traveled to that has inspired you to use it one of your upcoming books?
Kristin Clark: I have not traveled abroad yet but Ireland is going to be my first stamp on my pass port. I can’t wait to go there and see everything there is to see. I plan on getting a lot of writing done.
Candie and Michelle: I would love to go to Ireland too! What book are you reading now?
Kristin Clark: I am reading the #series by my awesome friend Cambria Herbert. I think this is my favorite series she has so far.
Candie and Michelle; We will have to check out her books. What advice would you give to your younger self?
Kristin Clark: Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Sometimes the choices we made are not the choices that we would have made looking back now but they are what shaped us into who we are today.
Candie and Michelle: Great advice! What advice do you give to other aspiring authors?
Kristin Clark: Don’t ever give up!
Candie and Michelle: Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
Kristin Clark: Dream big!
Candie and Michelle: How can readers discover more about you and you work?
