I would like to introduce the terrific  guys from 3Union: Brandon, Shaun, and Ryan Boyd as our "Artist of the Month" for the month of September. Here is the personal interview Candie and I were blessed with. Thanks so much Brandon, Shaun, and Ryan. :)

Candie and Michelle:
When did you start singing and playing?

Shaun Boyd: We started taking piano lessons when we were 5 from this really mean Ukrainian teacher. The best compliment you could ever get from her was, “that was pretty good.” After a few years our parents let us start playing other instruments. We were in junior high when we started singing.

Candie and Michelle: I feel like I speak for your fans when I say we are so glad you guys chose to venture down that road. Were there other names you considered before you decided on 3Union? How did you make your decision?

Brandon Boyd: We became a band about the time The Jonas Brothers were popular, so we didn’t want to be called The Boyd Brothers. We really had no clue what to call ourselves. One day, our dad said, “how about 3union?” We weren’t too sure at first, but after a bird pooped in the shape of a “3” on our windshield, we decided it was a sign from God! Haha!

Candie and Michelle: Very funny, Brandon. What’s it like living in Indianapolis?

Ryan Boyd: There’s corn…but we do have a lot of good friends here and it’s a great place to travel from.

Candie and Michelle: Sounds like a nice place. Did you grow up in a musical family?

Ryan Boyd: We did! Our parents are both musicians. We had a family band for a while. We actually made it to the finals of the Chicago auditions for America’s Got Talent, but they X’d us because they didn’t like our parents being in the band even though they said we sounded really good.

Candie and Michelle: Although "AGT" is a great platform for talent Candie and I both agree that God has an awesome plan for you guys. Just keep moving forward. :) Can any of you play any other musical instruments besides the ones you play now?

Shaun Boyd: We all play acoustic guitar and a little keys, Brandon and Ryan can play electric guitar and bass, Ryan plays drums on one song, I mainly play drums.

Candie and Michelle:  Cool. Who is your biggest supporter?

Brandon Boyd: Definitely our parents! Then our amazing fans!

Candie and Michelle: I'm so glad you have a good support system. What was the first tune(s) you learned?

Brandon Boyd: The first tune we learned as a band was  “What I Like About You.”

Candie and Michelle: I love that song. If I find a video of you all singing that on YouTube I am posting it on this site. Lol. What are your fondest musical memories? In your house? In your neighborhood or town?

Shaun Boyd: That’s an easy one, playing the side stage for the Jonas Brothers in NYC 2013! That was amazing! We also enjoyed the public school tour we did in Australia last year. We were actually able to share the Gospel at most of the schools and saw over 500 students indicate decisions to follow Christ!

Candie and Michelle: Wow! The Jonas Brothers....really cool. Australia is amazing too. Praise God. Besides being musically inclined, what other talents/skills do you have?

Shaun Boyd: speaking
Ryan Boyd: sarcasm
Brandon Boyd: awkward hugs

Candie and Michelle:  *smiles and laughs quietly to self* What do you do in your downtime?

3Union: Brandon and Ryan like to play online games with our friends. Shaun likes to read and workout.

Candie and Michelle: Brandon and Ryan you would enjoy our video game review section. Shaun you would enjoy our "authors" and fitness section. ;) Which artist(s) or band(s) do you feel has influenced you the most? Who do you admire?

Brandon Boyd: We have definitely been influenced by Relient K. One band we really admire is Tenth Avenue North.

Candie and Michelle: I can see that. Two bands I would really love to feature. Where has been your favorite place to perform on past tours so far?

Ryan Boyd: We’d have to say Lebanon is always a favorite. We’ve played 4 school tours there. We need to go back there soon, although it is kinda dangerous over there right now.

Candie and Michelle:  My prayers go out to those living there. Do you have any pre-show rituals to prepare for a performance?

Shaun Boyd: We always try to pray before the show.

Candie and Michelle: That is a wonderful thing to do. How do you unwind after a show?

Brandon Boyd: Hang out with a few friends and fans at Steak N Shake and then head home to bed.

Candie and Michelle: Sounds like fun. Is there anywhere that you haven’t performed at yet that you would really like to?

Shaun Boyd: Lots of places! South America, Europe, Japan, Russia....

Candie and Michelle: Can I say Bucket List??? Are there any other artist(s) or band(s) that you would like to play with?

Ryan Boyd: A tour with Imagine Dragons or OBB would be amazing!

Candie and Michelle: That tour would be rocking!! How do you feel like your sound has changed during the course of your career?

Shaun Boyd: We started out more pop/punk although our first recording was more alternative Christian rock, our second album is more electro. Right now, we’re working now on our third recording and it’s more along the pop/rock sound.

Candie and Michelle:  Can't wait for your new album. What song of yours are you the most proud of?

3Union: A lot of our fans tell us “Back To You” has really encouraged them in their faith.

Candie and Michelle: That's great! What has been your most memorable fan moment?

Brandon Boyd: It would have to be when we played at the JoBros concert. We had a line of people wanting our autograph and they missed the opening acts just to talk to us.
Ryan and Shaun Boyd: praying for people after the Indiana State Fair.

Candie and Michelle:  Both things had to make you feel really good. Are there new songs or albums in the horizon for 3Union?

Ryan Boyd: We have been working on song new music with some amazing writers including Jeff Owen from Tenth Avenue North and Jon McLaughlin. We are also in the process of having our fans join us in creating our new album. If anyone wants to partner with us they can check out our Indiegogo campaign. Even $10 would be a huge help! Candie and Michelle: Come on guys. Help them out! Please! If you weren’t a musician, what would you see yourself doing as a career?

Shaun/Brandon Boyd: an intercessory missionary at IHOPKC
Ryan Boyd: professional cat whisperer.

Candie and Michelle: *Just smiles and shakes head at Ryan* lol What advice would you give to your younger selves?

Shaun/Ryan Boyd: don’t waste your time playing video games, take time working on useful skills.
Brandon Boyd: don’t give up when things are hard, if you start something finish it.

Candie and Michelle: Good advice but *coughs* but video games in moderation aren't all bad right...*coughs again* ;) What advice would you give to an artist or band starting out?

Shaun Boyd: meet people at local venues so you can have places to play. Work hard on your social media, without your fans, you’d be nothing.

Candie and Michelle: Also good advice. Are there any new artist(s) or band(s) that have grasped your interest?

Shaun/Ryan Boyd: We like American Authors and Andy Mineo.

Candie and Michelle: We'll check them out. Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your fans?

3Union: THANK YOU! We love you and appreciate all your encouragement. And, never forget how much God loves you!

Candie and Michelle:  Your fans love you too. How can fans discover more about you and your music?

Candie and Michelle:  So guys, I just have to ask because all the girls want to know, are any of you single?

Brandon, Shaun, and Ryan: All of us are single.

Thank you Brandon, Shaun, and Ryan Boyd for taking the time out of your busy schedule to do this interview. I feel like we all(the fans) were able to get to know y'all better. I look forward to seeing you at one of your shows on tour and to hear your new album. Remember you can help these guys achieve that with the Indiegogo campaign in the link below. Please keep making the awesome music we love :)
