I would like to introduce the amazing guys from OBB: Zach, Jacob, and Nich Oswald as our "Artist of the Month" for the month of August. Here is the personal interview Candie and I were blessed with. Thanks so much Zach, Jacob, and Nich. :)
Candie and Michelle: When did you start singing and playing?
Nich Oswald: My brothers and I were all classically trained on piano from a very early age. However, our first experience playing together came about 7 years ago when our father entered us into a “Battle of the Bands” competition at a local church.
Candie and Michelle: "Battle of the Bands" sounds like it would be a really fun and exciting experience. We know OBB stands for Oswald Brothers band, but were there other names in the mix before you decided on OBB? How did you make your decision?
Jacob Oswald: That’s actually a funny story, yes we were going to go by the name of Covenant. We actually started a Myspace with that Band Name, but we all hated it pretty quick.
Candie and Michelle: I'm sure all of your fans would have followed you either way. :) Candie and I are both from Rome, GA so we’ve been to Atlanta. How do you like living in the city?
Jacob Oswald: We love living in Atlanta. We’re actually from Peachtree Corners (Norcross/Duluth area). We’ve been here close to 15 years. So really it’s all we really know.
Candie and Michelle: I understand that. Did you grow up in a musical family?
Jacob Oswald: Our grandfathers on both side are very musical, however it skipped a generation. Our parents always wanted their children to play piano, so it was priority in our house.
Candie and Michelle: I know all of us fans are so glad that they did. Can y’all play any other instruments besides the ones you play now?
Jacob Oswald: Yes, we can all play Piano, Guitar, and bass. Nich plays Drums too. The rest of us say we can play drums, but Nich would disagree.
Candie and Michelle: I applaud you all on being able to play all those. Who is your biggest supporter?
Zach Oswald: Our biggest supporter would be our Parents and then a very close second would be our Grandparents.
Candie and Michelle: So glad you have that support system. What was the first tune(s) you learned?
Zach Oswald: Hot Cross Buns. Seriously, I really can’t remember.
Candie and Michelle: Made me laugh Zach. What are your fondest musical memories? In your house? In your neighborhood or town?
Zach Oswald: Favorite memories are jamming out with my brothers. Or creating new music together and hearing it sung by our fans.
Candie and Michelle: Those are definitely some good memories. Besides being musically inclined do any of you feel that you are athletic?
Zach Oswald: We love everything outdoors! We all played football for a Home school football league “GA Force”. I (Zach) was the quarterback, Jacob was a running back and receiver, He could seriously catch anything, and Nich was really just starting when music became our major focus.
Candie and Michelle: Sounds like y'all had a nice time with that. What do you do in your downtime?
Nich Oswald: We love to be outdoors so whether we’re shooting a bow and arrow, boating, skiing or sharing our faith with people we meet. When we’re not working, we’re never indoors.
Candie and Michelle: All those sound like fun. Which artist(s) or band(s) do you feel has influenced you the most? Who do you admire?
Nich Oswald: Switchfoot, Coldplay and One Republic
Candie and Michelle: I love all three of those choices too. I love your Cover of Coldplay's "Magic". Tell us about your experience with “The Singing Family Face Off"?
Zach Oswald: “The singing family face off” was a great experience. It basically started our musical journey. It opened so many doors and started many amazing friendships.
Candie and Michelle: I can see how it could do that. We(the fans) are so glad it did. Where has been your favorite place to perform on past tours so far?
Zach Oswald: Rock the Universe in Orlando because we got to ride rides with our fans!
Candie and Michelle: I bet that made for a lot of excited fans. Do you have any pre-show rituals to prepare for a performance?
Nich Oswald: We circle up and pray before every show.
Candie and Michelle: That, in my opinion, is one of the best things you can do. I, myself, pray before I write anything. How do you unwind after a show?
Nich Oswald: We usually eat and go to bed.
Candie and Michelle: I can see why. I imagine you are tired after a show. Is there anywhere that you haven’t performed at yet that you would really like to?
Jacob Oswald: We haven’t been to England yet as a band, we would enjoy traveling abroad as a band.
Nich Oswald: Red rocks would be cool too.
Candie and Michelle: Both are nice places. Maybe God will open a door to allow y'all to go to each place. Is there any other artist(s) or band(s) that you would like to play with?
Zach, Jacob, and Nich: Coldplay, One Republic, Switchfoot, Need to Breathe
Candie and Michelle: All wonderful bands. I say again maybe God will open that door for y'all. How do you feel like your sound has changed during the course of your career?
Zach, Jacob, and Nich: I feel we have discovered our sound.
Candie and Michelle: We(the fans) are so glad you did. What Song of yours are you the most proud of?
Zach, Jacob, and Nich: Up Close and Personal, Brightside. But, we like them all.
Candie and Michelle: Oh from your new album, "Brightside", that is coming out in September which is available for pre-order on your website. (Link at the bottom of the interview). I can't wait to hear them all. What has been your most memorable fan moment?
Zach Oswald: We have the best fans ever. Probably when our fans travel so far to come to a show and bring gifts. They truly inspire us to be the best we can be.
Candie and Michelle: That is sweet. I would feel the same way. Are there new songs or albums in the horizon for OBB?
Nich Oswald: Yes, we have our first full album coming out in September. It’s actually available now for presale. (Link at the bottom of the interview)
Candie and Michelle: I can't wait to hear it. If you weren’t a musician what would you see yourself doing as a career?
Zach Oswald: Something with computers.
Nich Oswald: Something technical for sure.
Jacob Oswald: I would find a way to do something in music.
Candie and Michelle: All good choices. What advice would you give to your younger selves?
Zach Oswald: Warm up and play with a click always.
Candie and Michelle: That sounds like good advice. What advice would you give to an artist or band starting out?
Zach Oswald: Warm up and play with a click always.
Candie and Michelle: Good advice. Are there any new artist(s) or band(s) that have grasped your interest?
Jacob Oswald: We love music of all genres. We are always meeting new artists at festivals/concerts. There are many talented musicians that we are honored to share the stage with!
Candie and Michelle: Feel free to send them to this site if they would like to be featured. Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your fans?
Jacob Oswald: You are the Best! We have the Best fans in the world! Everyone else may say it, but we really do!
